Watched Suicide Squad last night. Wasn't as bad as I'd been expecting

Over the weekend I watched

Wreck It Ralph-best animated movie IMO

and I finally saw My Own Private Idaho-B+ good movie, man River had so much talent, such a shame. I blame John Frusciante

I also rewatched The Crow I never actually knew the part of the movie where Brandon died until a friend told me so I had to rewatch it.

Maggie's Plan was underwhelming. Decent performances. Some interesting shots. But mostly just 'meh' and forgettable.

Mississippi Grind.

Mendelsohn is a god.

The movie is ok, its nice, the soundtrack is cool, the cinematography is fine. But Ben is again at the top of his game.

My head is spinning. I just saw this. It's painful but brilliant.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Yeah, I enjoyed it quite a bit, too. Didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

Watched it on an airplane. I really liked the relationship between Sherlock and Amidala, it seemed more real than most anything else in the film. It's hard to believe that modern computing more or less started with cables and pulleys. What kept pulling me out of the film were the Downton Abbey characters. It's like...you're playing almost the same character-type as from the TV show...the only difference is WW2 vs. WW1.

The ending really ticked me off. I mean, wtf is wrong with governments (or anyone, really) who feel like the following of rules is more important than recognizing genius? I'm not a writer so I know this isn't coming out right, but it's like: He is the reason we defeated the Nazis. We wouldn't have broken Enigma without him and his machine (and his team, to some degree) and you hang him out to dry because of some stupid laws on the books about being gay. It's disgusting, and it's not like it's changed all that much in the intervening years. Sure there's more 'tolerance' but that's just a code word for "don't say anything out loud" for a lot of people.

And now I'm pissed off and I'm supposed to go to a mandatory-fun event and smile like I want to be there. Ugh.

Captain Fantastic. Absolutely loved it. Sprinkle in a good amount of Sigur Ros for good measure and you got yourself a beautiful movie.

"They look like people". Not bad, but nothing special. Are there any good horror movies anymore? (Yes, the babadook was good)
