Guys, Station Eleven was beautiful. I fucking adore this book. Like, I know this is super morbid, but I kind of hope, years and years and years, decades from now, when I'm in my mid 120s and it's time for my light to fade out... I kinda want to revisit the book again. I would love for Station Eleven to be the last book I ever read when I'm old and ready to die.

We all have that book. For me it's this one.

After I got past some of the awkward dialogue work during the first few post-apocalyptic bits, I'm agreeing with you that it's very good. I'm definitely a fan of how it recasts some of the more typical aspects of an end of the world story (and not quite end) into very human-sized personal struggles.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

This was enjoyable. Occasionally it got a little too lyrical but it had some nice spooky moments.

But what you said brings to mind my thoughts while reading "The Girl With All The Gifts": It's got a strange beginning but then the meat of the post-apocalyptic stuff starts up and you wonder if humanity's going to turn it around. Kind of an Omega Man/I Am Legend bit going on there.

And then the ending hits and it's got an even bigger Omega Man/I Am Legend lean going on and I like the idea but the whole of the story and some poor characterizations (people making dumb decisions because the plot demands it, for example) kept it from being more than a 3-star.

Its a tough call which is better. The book has some superior parts and the movie has some superior parts.
