Really really great film. They should give Mortensen an Oscar already.

I watched the special edition of Aliens last night. I'm not real familiar with the movie, have only seen it once or twice before last night, it was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to.

Yeah, psyched about this. I bought McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Short Cuts, and Carnival of Souls. And I was pleasantly surprised to find I had a $10 credit for some reason.bune wrote:Criterion's doing another 50% sale today and tomorrow. DOLLS is the code.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Watched Deepwater Horizon yesterday (my son did a report on it for fifth grade). It wasn't that bad, honestly. Though some of the CGI underwater looked like a Quicktime video from 2005 or something, just turrible. And I could not figure out what I was supposed to be taking away from most of the underwater shots. I get it, something's going bad here, but what, exactly? No idea.
I also liked that they showed the after-effect/PTSD of having survived that. Could have used a few more minutes of it, and maybe more than just Marky Mark, but I still applaud the decision to not end with "and we all lived happily ever after".
This kind of sums it up pretty well:

Saw the trailer for Patriots Day again and it's scored by Trent Reznor? wtf?Mike Ryan of Uproxx praised the film's performances and ability to make audiences angry at BP: "I’ll be honest, I didn’t think we needed a movie about this subject. I’ve changed my mind. And, if nothing else, I hope it gets people angry again, because the people who did this to our planet, and killed 11 people in the process, got off too easy."

BFG. I liked the first half, though all the stuff with the queen was weird. Longest and most tedious fart joke ever. Fell off a cliff at the halfway point. They didn't really know how to end that one. The giants looked cool though.
What a mess.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is outstanding. What a great movie. And I owe Mr. Efron an apology. He's way better than I ever thought him capable of being.
