I don't understand the nomination process -- what determines whether certain ex-members get in?

Apparently Jerry Garcia demanded that everyone who'd ever played with the Grateful Dead got inducted with them, meaning that 12 members were inducted: "The 12 inducted members of the Grateful Dead include Tom Constanten, who played keyboards from 1968-70; Keith Godchaux (Donna's husband), who played keyboards from 1971-79; and Robert Hunter, who was Garcia's lyricist."

Similarly Parliament/Funkadelic ended up with 16 members nominated.

Apparently the decision is made in the end by the executive board of th HOF themselves, though obviously the band have a great deal of say here (see Garcia above). The HOF itself states the inductees are selected "solely on the basis of artistic merit". It boils down to "essential creative contributions".

I'd say if they'd fought for it they could have very easily had all drummers represented, and in this writer's opinion, that would have been the right thing to do.

Anyway, band members need to pay thousands of dollars to get a seat at the ceremony, so Dave A. probably can't afford it

I'm not too concerned about who will be there. It would be a little awkward if all of the drummers were there.

However, it is vital that they pay a good amount of respect to all of the past players.

Dave A would likely just sell his trophy anyways

When I think of Pearl Jam, I think of Dave A. and Matt Cameron. Jack Irons is inside baseball Pearl Jam.

I don't understand what "inside baseball Pearl Jam" means. But, Jack was with the band longer and meant more to the band, not only as an individual but also in their creative growth. Jack Irons is far more "essential" to the band than Dave A. I'm fine leaving both of them out, frankly. But to me, if you were going to include one and not the other then Jack Irons makes far more sense than Dave A.

Only Pearl Jam nerds know about Jack Irons. Regular people know Dave A.
Also, Dave A. was better.

In the past it's been founding members + members of the "classic" lineup (I guess meaning the most popular and recognizable lineup), hence why Marky and Tommy were inducted with the Ramones but CJ and Richie weren't.

I don't think "regular people" know any of the Pearl Jam drummers. MAYBE Matt.

I think Dave A was far more integral to Pearl Jams spot int he Hall of Fame. He helped propel the band through Ten and VS with shows and tv performances that helped shape the movement.

Do any members of The Jamily get inducted or is it merely going to be a token representative of The Faithful?

I get why Krusen's getting in being a founding member and all, but he was already out of the band before the first album even came out. Dave A was the guy that was out there promoting that album. Total bullshit he's not getting in.

I blame Jeff.

Or maybe Ed's still pissed off about his guitar...
