Re: Vote for PJ in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations
This is monumentally dumb, but so is the RnR HoF.
Who is inducted seems arbitrary and it doesn't appear that bands themselves have much influence. Chad Channing was denied a spot with Nirvana which I gather was contrary to what the band wanted and Robert Smith wrote an angry diatribe when the Cure were nominated but long-serving drummer Jason Cooper (1994 to present) wasn't included. On the other hand, Chad Smith, Jack Irons and Cliff Martinez were all inducted with Red Hot Chili Peppers relatively recently, so who the hell knows.

I even understand why Matt is getting in, but the snub to Dave A is bullshit.

Dave A, Jack Irons, and Matt Cameron all deserve inclusion.

Fingers crossed Pearl Jam lose out to Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk.

I think you're downplaying Matt's contributions and worthiness here. He's the longest running drummer, and despite not being on the most memorable albums, is the guy everyone has seen perform live since they've really harnessed their reputation for live performance.

The band already looks like assholes to you anyway. Lets be honest.tragabigzanda wrote:This is bullshit. Krusen and Abbruzesse absolutely deserve to be there. Irons shouldn't pull the same weight as far as the rules go, but the band is going to look like assholes to me if they don't try to find a way to include him. Chamberlain obviously doesn't deserve much credit. Cameron gets in on a couple technicalities: he's their current drummer, and he played on Last Kiss. But 100 years from now, no one is gonna remember Riot Act or Lightning Bolt. Their legend will rest firmly on Ten - Vitalogy. This whole thing is a joke.

I agree that even poor ol' Dave Krusen is significantly more important to the band's history than Matt Cameron but, as with those examples I gave upthread, I don't think the band has any say in these things.tragabigzanda wrote:This is bullshit. Dave K and Dave A should be there...the same for Jackie, and of course Matt. Its weird...they should let the band decide themselves.

I've had handjobs that lasted longer than Chamberlain was in the band.

Chamberlain was arguably their best drummer, too bad it didn't work out.

Just hope we get a speech along the lines of

"I really enjoy sandwiches but the other guys are so good at making sandwiches that I don't make them. Now I make sandwiches."
