Arctic Monkeys have announced the release of their fifth studio album. Simply titled AM, the album will be released on September 10th through Domino Records.

The 12-track effort was produced by James Ford and co-produced by Ross Orton at Sage & Sound Recording in Los Angeles and Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree. Guest contributors include Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello), and Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral). What’s more, the words of poet John Cooper Clarke are featured on the track “I Wanna Be Yours”.

'Do I Wanna Know?'
'R U Mine?'
'One For The Road'
'Arabella'
'I Want It All'
'No. 1 Party Anthem'
'Mad Sounds'
'Fireside'
'Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?'
'Snap Out Of It'
'Knee Socks'
'I Wanna Be Yours'

if that was a last shadow puppet's show, i'd be all for it, but fuck that. i love these lads, but they're a little too young to be reworking their big songs. anyway, i've seen the band all 4 times they've come to this shit ass state, and they've not done mardy bum in any form once.

as a side note, the first time i saw pearl jam was in 1995. they played a reworked version of jeremy. i was thrilled to be at a pj show, but it still annoyed me a bit.

what do you think of that one, bain?

maybe i'll like it more in the context of the album, but that just feels like it was better left as a b-side. i don't get how a song like the bakery doesn't make an album and mad sounds does.

Sounds a little like a poor man's "Dollar Bill" by Screaming Trees.

As much as I enjoy Arctic Monkeys, I can't help but feel they are a bit over hyped. Still. That first record was a cracker and Alex is a sensational lyricist but the actual songs don't seem to really go anywhere. It's all the one dynamic and stop start parts. It definitely feels like a band with diminishing returns.

I think that the band are way better now, they're getting better as time passes...

Really believe that they're one of the best bands around right now.

As for Mad Sounds, it's my least fav of the 3, BUT, i agree, it'll sound way better on the album...

They feel more accomplished as musicians but I'm not sure that always translates into a better experience.
