Cornell could be a good choice for the induction...Casablancas too...
How does Matt not belong on stage when he has been in the band longer than any of the other drummers, and is the current drummer?!
and has been the drummer for over half their output
YEA THEIR WORST OUTPUT! FUCK PJDAVEA
You're joking but you're not entirely wrong.
I love the guy but Matt Cameron is essentially a footnote in Pearl Jam's career.
All of their important works feature Krusen, Abbruzzese or Irons.
Actually, every PJ drummer is a footnote.
I guess that's true to some degree but Abbruzzese is by a large margin the closest thing to being the iconic Pearl Jam drummer in the public imagination.
Is he though?
Guys I don't think the public could name you a member of the band other than Eddie Vedder.

Exactly.
Honestly, I'd be fine with Matt being the only drummer inducted with the band. I certainly don't give a shit about Dave A.
and I thought I knew you.
I... I'm sorry.
You freaking well should be.
He's fine as a drummer. I'm a fan of his ability. And I like the songs he wrote with the band. But as a guy... I just don't care. And I think Jack and Matt have both been more interesting and better for the band. *shrugs*

I'd wager this is completely false. Cameron is a more recognizable figure on all fronts.

I don't know, I struggle to really see Matt as Pearl Jam's drummer in that sense. He's the guy from Soundgarden.

I think a case can be made for both, and probably depends on the individuals age and relationship to 90s rock.
This is all very unscientific but I've known people from the "huh, they're still around?" crowd, who own the first three albums but drifted away thereafter, who know who Dave Abbruzzese is. He was the drummer in the band's most successful, most high profile period; if there's one drummer people know, even on a visual level, Abbruzzese is the guy.
The people that I know that call themselves Pearl Jam fans but bailed after Vitalogy couldn't tell you who the drummer was on any of those first three records. But a lot of the people I'm talking about here aren't musicians either. So that might be why.
I'm not a musician and I'm thinking of all my favorite bands. I'd be surprised how many drummers I could name you, actually.
Kevin Davis wrote:If Pearl Jam had simply faded away once Jack left the band, I don't think their induction would seem so inevitable -- they'd still be a big '90's rock band who had a run of a few good albums, but that describes a handful of bands who are eligible and haven't been nominated. Despite the fact that his name isn't on as many major records as the other guys, Matt's role in PJ's story shouldn't be diminished -- their ultimate legacy is as dependent on their reputation as a live juggernaut as it is on their records (perhaps more so), and he's been behind the kit for virtually all of that (their reputation was virtually the opposite of that prior to him joining the band). Leaving him out would be like the Dead leaving Brent Mydland out -- yeah, he wasn't on many of their better recordings**, but he was a definitive part of the experience for a lot of people who followed the band, especially at a time when the environment surrounding the band was more about the fan/event experience than whatever record they were promoting at the time.
**This is a generalization, of course -- personally I like at least two Matt records better than anything either Dave played on.
COUNTERPOINT: the RR HOF has had a hard on for eddie vedder all along and their 90s output would've been enough. pearl jam's tried their hardest to fuck it up since then to no avail.

Totally agree.

Assuming they get to play at least a 3-song set, what's your best guess?
I know it's probably a foregone conclusion but they haven't been confirmed as being inducted yet, only nominated for inclusion along with a bunch of other bands.

I'll set the over/under of them not making it in on their first ballot at 4%.
