Hmm, I thought he did really well with his wife shots. All the natural scenery seemed really well balanced and framed the action nicely. But I guess some of the tighter stuff left something to be desired.
It's an okay movie, but the cinematography and lighting are utterly sterile and lifeless, and there is no sensuality in the camerawork. It's a prosaic movie. Clearly the work of a writer, not a filmmaker. Which is a shame, because the dialogue and cast are great.
I totally agree about the lack of sensuality. I actually liked the cinematography and lighting -- looked sort of dusty and old. Come to think of it, I think we had a similar disagreement about Hateful 8. I might just be a sucker for films with old-looking mountain shots. Always reminds me of childhood summers in Idaho.
When will you be doing Sharing Cinematic Values?
I'd love to do it, but I should listen to some more past episodes before I try to have a conversation with LV (assuming he's be into it).
i think you should just jump right into it

Curse is one of my favorite movies ever. And it is a period piece so not really comparable.

Team Plat/Trag. No surprise. The-matter-of-fact look of the movie better serves the last act swerve I think. 'Tis a silly movie though. Too gimmicky for me. The characters and the actors are dependably great, though.
