I think the band legitimately think people care. I blame the fanbois over on the pit and the people who are buying the dog collars. They are really fucking with any realistic understanding the band has left regarding the real public's perception and interest in them.

The failure here was not to understand that album information is more exciting than tour information and that expecting album information/new music was a reasonable expectation.

The fallacy here is that every time this shit happens, someone says 'Well this wasn't for you, it was for the fans.' But the fans are always *over there*, like, not us. And some of them will be on the Pit too. So in the end, who *was* this announcement for? The answer is, anyone who was interested... and the number of interested people is shrinking every time they pull a stunt like this. So now, 'fans' simply means 'not you, someone else'.

My disappointment has driven me to register and post. I am starting to realize that the Wrigley show may very well be the last time I see these guys play live..... ever. I guess if you live anywhere from Nebraska to Florida, a travel excursion is required to see the band from now on, full on with plane tickets, hotels, etc... Just can't do that anymore. I'm too damn old, have kids, responsibilities, etc... I mean, when's the next full tour? 2016 at best? And I'd bet I have a 10% chance of seeing them within an hour or two drive from my Louisville home. It's been 19 years since they played here. We have a brand spanking new downtown arena- I saw the Who there in the Spring. I was fully expecting there would be a date in Louisville because of these two facts.

All that build-up just to have half the country realize they won't be seeing them this tour seems a little near sighted. I guess the countdown gimmick will continue, and I will look forward to album and single news, but to ever expect anything again that is surprisingly satisfying from this band is a bad idea and I just need to get used to it.

Sad to think, but it looks like my Pearl Jam fandom has officially moved on to the "good ol' days" of my youth.

I consider myself a fan and a countdown clock for a shoddy list of tour dates is totally losing the plot....even for these guys. We will see if they can redeem any of this in a few days.

I don't think we're disagreeing. My point is that the countdown was not for the general population (the public), which verb_to_trust seemed to be implying. It was for the pearl jam community. And it did generate interest. In that respect it was successful. The problem was that a tour announcement doesn't include everyone--which was your point.

The band's management can get away with these misguided PR stunts because the band makes great music and we all love the band.

The band MADE great music......

The band doesn't make great music anymore and hasn't done for a long time. And some of us haven't loved them for a long time. I wish I could but meh, worse things have happened.

My point is that the band's management can treat the fan base like shit and get away with it because most of us (me included) will still make an effort to buy the album and enter the lottery.

One word just keeps coming to mind today in regards to band management: "Pathetic."

While people are entitled to feel however they want to feel, I'm not sure why this has turned into an existential crisis for some people.

A new album is coming. New music is coming. They will be touring off a new record. It looks like that original rumored date for the single will have ended up being correct. This was a let down (I felt a bit deflated after the announcement) because we were primed to expect information this week that will now come next week, most likely.

But that's it. We are now getting our present a week later. it sucks that we thought Christmas was coming a week early. But it is still coming.
