The David pumpkins sketch seems to be from the writers who brought us Kevin roberts. I loved both.

the pumpkin skit was way too repetitive...black jeopardy and the sully skit were good
And they say that a hero could save us

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The French ladies commenting on animal videos is a reoccurring sketch. They have appeared at least once before.

tragabigzanda wrote:Cold open is boring. SNL's political humor feels so lame compared to Samantha Bee, or even John Oliver. The Trump character is not offering any sort of comedic take that couldn't be found in a highschool theater class; and they are way too soft on Hillary, writing her as a manic, power-hungry career politician (which we all agree she is), when they could be mining some biting commentary out of her past missteps (anti-gay marriage, Vince Foster, Whitewater, etc).

Tom Hanks is just so eminently likable. He's making this shitty monologue somewhat enjoyable.

Black Jeopardy was great.. "That's how they get ya" was an awesome line. Keenan Thompsan's "Everybody's got a guy. Yea, you alright, Doug" was awesome, and the Car Tape ad was funny. "We'll give you a pass this time" made me LOL. "The sound of the broom hitting the ceiling below us, means we probably got to stop" was funny too. Here we are finally starting to see the benefit of SNL being pressed to bring in more people of color -- humor that they couldn't have pulled off without an expanded black cast. Hopefully they'll get some people from other backgrounds in the near future (I'm not sure Villasenor counts).

I have such a big crush on Cecily Strong. I could watch her all day. But this Halloween Musical skit is pretty bad. Joey should watch this one and try to stand by his praise for Villasenor; she brings absolutely nothing to the table here.

The Broken skit was awesome. "Yea, I like to be hit when I'm having sex. Are you happy, dad?!...And I have Crohn's disease!" Terrific.

The David Pumpkin skit is awful, but I admire Hanks's commitment.

WTF happened to Lady Gaga? She's doing some Bruno Mars/Taylor Swift-style throwback stuff? I guess I like this music better than anything she's done before, but it's ultimately pretty tepid, and she's just trading her originality for something safe and bland. I don't think I'll ever understand her popularity. I can see that she's a real talent, a true artist, but I just think her music has been so consistently boring.

This is the worst update in a while. Just a bunch of unfunny jokes. And I usually enjoy Leslie Jones's appearances here, but this one sucked.

The premise of the Sully skit is pretty funny, even if the actual skit kind of sucks.

Bobby Moynihan's chipper "Spooky" totally stole the Girls Halloween skit.

This other Gaga song sucks too. So awkward and forced. She'll be Bette Midler in 15 years.

Hanks's impression of Ron Howard is pretty great AND OMG CECILY STRONG IS IN THIGH HIGHS AND SHE'S SPEAKING FRENCH! I'll be watching this skit again, I'm sure.

This episode was pretty bad.
Best skits: Black Jeopardy; The Broken
Worst skit: Cold open. How can a bunch of comedy professionals not find anything funny in the last debate?
Overall best moment: Cecily Strong in thigh highs speaking French.

I'd take last week's episode, with a bunch of failed oddities, over this week's episode, with a bunch of safe middle-of-the-road humor, any day of the week.
black jeopardy was political humor.

Did you know Fred Armisen was born in Hattiesburg, MS? Same hospital as me. So I have a conversation starter if I ever get to hang out with them.
