Currently reading Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood.

My god, she's amazing. This woman just continues to blow my mind. Great book so far. About 100 pages in.

If, somehow, on this planet there are those who think maybe Atwood is too old... too dry... close to the end and finished; over her head and ready to rest -- perhaps they read The Heart Goes Last and saw some sort of foreboding writing on the wall... to those delusional, misguided folks I can only smirk and say... fucking read Hag-Seed.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Nice. I've never read it, but I do have the Charles Portis Miscellany (collection of newspaper articles, essays, and short stories), and it's excellent. Sort of a pre-cursor to Tom Wolfe.
i've never seen the john wayne film, but thoroughly enjoyed the coens' version...it was available for a free download on the local library's digital media center so i figured i'd give it a read

You answered the question I was about to ask. If you liked No Country For Old Men because of how closely it followed the book, you'll love True Grit.

I read Wizard of Earthsea and enjoyed it. It was weird in that there was almost zero conflict, but also interesting for that reason. I plan on reading most of her books over 2017, we'll see how far I get. Especially since I have also committed myself to starting The Wheel of Time.

yeah i've heard it follows it really closely...i'm not really the type that feels a film should necessarily follow the book

Can anyone recommend any good fantasy books? Not dwarves and elves, though.
