A new album is coming. New music is coming. They will be touring off a new record. It looks like that original rumored date for the single will have ended up being correct. This was a let down (I felt a bit deflated after the announcement) because we were primed to expect information this week that will now come next week, most likely.
But that's it. We are now getting our present a week later. it sucks that we thought Christmas was coming a week early. But it is still coming.
No crisis but it is yet 1 more thing that points to the major disconnect between the band/management and "fans". Yet another major ball drop....if you will.

You clearly need to move.hlniv wrote:My disappointment has driven me to register and post. I guess if you live anywhere from Nebraska to Florida, a travel excursion is required to see the band from now on, full on with plane tickets, hotels, etc... Just can't do that anymore. I'm too damn old, have kids, responsibilities, etc... I mean, when's the next full tour? 2016 at best? And I'd bet I have a 10% chance of seeing them within an hour or two drive from my Louisville home. It's been 19 years since they played here. We have a brand spanking new downtown arena- I saw the Who there in the Spring. I was fully expecting there would be a date in Louisville because of these two facts.
All that build-up just to have half the country realize they won't be seeing them this tour seems a little near sighted. I guess the countdown gimmick will continue, and I will look forward to album and single news, but to ever expect anything again that is surprisingly satisfying from this band is a bad idea and I just need to get used to it.
Sad to think, but it looks like my Pearl Jam fandom has officially moved on to the "good ol' days" of my youth.

That has just sunk in for me... I feel older now than I ever have. I was really expecting this to be another big run, definitely not as big as 2003, but the biggest since then. It is the most obvious thing EVER that if they'd released album info, people would've waited on another clock for tour info. But not the other fucking way round...stupidmop wrote:Strat wrote:stupidmop wrote:Don't tour announcements usually come after album announcements.....so the tour is y'know...supporting the album
Nope. Not with PJ anymore. Touring is about milking us idiots for all we are worth...
But if they did it the otherway round at least they wouldn't look as retarded. I'm ok with being lied to! C'Mon guys is not that harrrdddd.

Am I delusional to reserve judgment until after the band is actually done with their announcements? I know, that type of rational thought is just useless...

I agree. But I do think the countdown idea was neat, and they're continuing with it (it looks like) for all the album/tour info. This was just a poor place to start.

Was it really though? I mean the fans are fans and a simple "Have your memberships up to date" or " Tour dates will be announced" would have more than sufficed to generate fan traffic. This is some trumped up self indulgent marketing campaign. It screams of a build up or a shout out to fringe fans and casuals of " Hey we still matter!". It even made some news broadcasts. I just don't see how these dates and this announcement constitute as "Huge" as they put it several times.stip wrote:I don't think we're disagreeing. I'm annoyed. The sad part is all it would have taken was some formal acknowledgment of a single/album/title to make this countdown worth it. Maybe it's me being fickle .

It was a brand-new, ramped up way of delivering news... with bells on. And all for information they've thrown out for free before, with no OTT buildup at all. All the interest and excitement they generated, which some people are for some reason impressed by, was for nothing other than "a little bird told me you should renew your memberships", which we've had a thousand times before.Thejambi wrote:Was it really though? Not even that. They could do far more interesting tours in 20-25 shows than their "par-for-the course" east coast/west coast stops.
