Re: What? Waffles? The BitTorrent thread
I only really use What and have a 1.25 ratio. My ADSL generally sucks but I simply make sure I seed as much as possible. I tend to hit a run of torrents a month, all completed over a day or two, and use the scheduling preferences on uTorrent to have it seeding after work hours and all weekend (this computer stays on 24/7).
Once you make your ip static and sort out portforwarding it really is pretty straightforward.
Once on What check to ensure you are connectable and all should be sweet.

Re: What? Waffles? The BitTorrent thread
I've never struggled with maintaining a ratio on Waffles but for a while I couldn't get anything going on What.cd
Once I switched to a white listed version of UTorrent my what.cd ratio shot right up there. Now both sites are near 1.
I haven't had to deal with port forwarding either. 8-10 years ago I couldn't get anything working and couldn't figure out port forwarding and gave up on sites with ratio requirements. But then when I tried again on waffles around 2010 everything has just worked fine.

I'm assuming you guys must use these for movies and TV shows, otherwise I can't imagine why anyone would bother with all this over the ease and simplicity of something like Soulseek.

Re: What? Waffles? The BitTorrent thread
Literally all I had to do was make sure I had the correct software version. It's so much easier than traditional p2p, and the quality control is in a whole other league.

Yeah, I pretty much don't torrent video at all. Like chud (essentially) says though, the quality control and organisation of What is simply outstanding.

Re: What? Waffles? The BitTorrent thread
My computer crash today and I lost everything. I don't even have a back-up.
How can I seed my own uploads? (94)
What will happen to my ratio??
I am panicking right now.
Please help!!
Thanks!

Re: What? Waffles? The BitTorrent thread
You're going to have to redownload, even your own uploads. I'd get stuff you listen to a lot first, and then wait until a freeleech to attack the bulk of it.

Just popping in to say: lots of freeleech picks on What. Grab them all and just leave them seeding.

Re: What? Waffles? The BitTorrent thread
Ok so I'm a complete noob when it comes to torrents and have recently joined dimeadozen and attempted to download a few shows. I have both the bitorrent and utorrent apps on my android 5.1 phone. When i try to add the torrent file it simply says failed to add whatever specific dimeadozen link I'm trying to add.
Anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong as my mobile internet is unlimited and actually faster than my home internet. Does bitorrent not work with andoid 5.1 lollipop or am I just an idiot?

Re: What? Waffles? The BitTorrent thread
I've got nooooooo idea about torrenting on a mobile device. Be sure to check your terms of service to see if it's allowed at all (even legal torrenting may be against the rules, since it eats up so much data). If you still want to go with that, check the forums of whatever tracker you're on for tips. Otherwise, I'd stick with desktop torrenting--most clients allow you to set speed limits so that you won't be using all your data.

Don't bother downloading to your phone - Flacs will take up all your available space in no time flat.blackholesun85 wrote:Ok so I'm a complete noob when it comes to torrents and have recently joined dimeadozen and attempted to download a few shows. Why not just set your phone up as a wifi hotspot, connect to it with your laptop/computer, and torrent to your hearts content using your unlimited mobile internet but a far preferable desktop torrenting client?
uTorrent works good.

I'm quite the fan of the pbthal vinyl rips. So far I've used tokens on his rips of Abbey Road, Powerage and Kid A. This is a very good start.
