Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I think he's doing his best work now. The kids are all right, foxcatcher, spotlight, the Hulk… He's turning in a pretty broad range of characters these days, and it seems like he's starting to develop accents and physical mannerisms that weren't really part of his repertoire before.

Had never even heard of this film until just now. Premise is interesting.

i caught it on cable when i was in college, or maybe right after....i enjoyed the sardonic nature of it, and i think the fact that it's so low budget worked to it's advantage

Catch Me If You Can.

Eff me, what a fantastic movie. I had seen it before, but not for several years. I'm still reading the Syd Field screenplay book, and I've got to admit that just about any movie I can think of adheres to his ideas about structure very closely, excluding arty films. But this one is a powerhouse of writing and editing...

What's plot point 1, exactly? Is it when Frank starts forging checks? When he's passes for a pilot? Or more likely, when Hanratty is introduced?

And the same holds for plot point 2: Is it when he's captured (and if so, it's amazing that they introduce that in the very beginning of the film)? Is it when he abandons his bride at the airport? Is it when he goes to work for the FBI?

And I've also been on a pretty long streak of hating music in film; I just find it to be unnecessarily prodding in so many movies -- like, if I can't get that a character is sad from his words and actions, and the lighting and set, etc, then the music typically feels like a hamfisted directional sign. But in this movie, the music is brilliant -- it keeps the energy moving at a steady clip throughout, and never feels schlocky.

DiCaprio is great. Hanks is great. Spielberg is amazing. One of the best movies of the 21st century, I think.

I agree, it is also an excellent cable TV movie. You can turn it on and it is enjoyable from any point.

Mark Ruffalo has been in a lot of dull movies lately, but his performances are always excellent.

And yeah, Catch Me It You Can is great.

Finally got around to watching "We Need To Talk About Kevin". It was pretty good. I thought it would be "scarier" but the premise was definitely disturbing. Kevin is a little shit. I like seeing John C. Riley in a movie like that.

Watched "The Witch" too. It was nice and suspenseful, and a good change of pace from the "gotcha" type thrills you see from most horror flicks.
