That's how I feel, except I barely watch the NFL anymore. Part of it is because the Browns are just terrible and there hasn't been any point in watching them since they came back (minus the rare good year here and there), but the main reason is I'm just so disgusted by the league itself with the way the players are treated and the on-field product is dismal.

I'm drifting away from college football too. The NCAA is a horrendous organization and after Penn St. and Baylor and North Carolina I wonder if major college sports should just end all together. It's not like the quality of play is that great in college anymore either but at least it can be entertaining and there's always a million games on TV each Saturday and the nostalgia is stronger for me with the college game. I feel like if I hadn't gone to Ohio State I would have checked out all together.

I guess they put a lot of weight into what they think is strength of schedule, but yeah, UW should be #4. We really need an 8 team playoff.
I disagree as it would become more muddy around 7-8-9-10 rankings. There will be a TON of 1 or 2 loss teams in that area and then there would be even more butthurt schools come selection time.
Here's how I'd do it:
--4 conferences of 18 teams each, 9 team divisions. Play 8 round robin within your division, 4 with whoever else you want (even a team inside your conference but outside your division).
--12 team playoff. Keep the CCGs where they are now around late November/early December, take a week off for finals, then do a round each week. That should put the semis around New Year's and the final around where it is now.
--Conference champs get an automatic playoff berth and a first round bye--but not necessarily the top 4 seeds, just in case a weak division winner gets an upset in a CCG.
--8 wild cards, determined and seeded first based on W/L record, and then apply objective tiebreakers similar to the NFL.
--Throw the damn polls and the damn committee into a dumpster fire.
I think the committee has been pretty good so far.

Tell me about man. I love Clemson, hate the NCAA. One of these days I'll have my breaking point with football, and just say:

Of course, it is college football we are talking about. The schedules are too unbalanced to determine a definitive top 4, top 8, top 12 each year.

Yep, that's why I disagree with Ruddo here:

I think an 8 team, or even 9 (where 1 gets a bye) would be a nice improvement. There would be flaws of course, but teams like UW that were "snubbed" still get in the playoff and can prove it there. I say "end of season" b/c today's rankings are still too muddled. A few more top 15 programs will lose from now till then.

Washington will make the playoff if they go undefeated. I really like the four team playoff. 8 would really be pushing it.

i like 8 in theory, i'm just not sure in practice how viable of an option it is

Yeah, especially when you go back and look at the 6th-10th teams of the past several years.
