i might give it a try...it's available for free on my local library's website
It's a great book. The first section was a bit slow, I thought. But everything else is outstanding.
what raiders player would you most compare it to?
No Raiders are anywhere near worthy of this book. Even at it's worst, Cloud Atlas is better than the festering non-stop shit stream that that terrible, off-putting, garbage organization fields each week.

that's a bit over the top
And they say that a hero could save us
I'm not gonna stand here and wait

My mother-in-law is a Raiders fan (grew up in Oakland) so I hear worse than that every Sunday. I don't think he's too off the mark.

Damnit, I wish I could read more. Writing a dissertation is like the worst thing you can do if you like to read. I have like 120 books on my next-up list. I did read Titus Andronicus a few weeks ago, and that was pretty good.
Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Contemporary American literature and the ascension of sincerity over irony as a cultural dominant. It sort of makes sense in my head. Three major literary subjects are: Wallace, Junot Diaz, Karen Tei Yamashita. Then there's an early chapter that just sort of traces the history of "The New Sincerity" through American culture since the 1980s, looking at music, film, television, philosophy. Then the last chapter is going to be on the internet and podcasts or something.
