Indeed... I saw them at RR in '13, and once with Annie opening in Dallas for the Boxer album tour... I've always imagined Matt and Annie having a thing for each other and that the song, Slipped, was about an affair between the two of them.William Bloke wrote:Regardless of St Vincent, this is just awesome. i like the way you think, sir.durdencommatyler wrote:Yeah, I'd love for her do something heavy and dark and weird. YLAR meets Bring Me Your Loves with a little Krokodil mixed in for good measure.![]()
That's right in my wheelhouse. But really anything she does is right in my wheelhouse. So...

She's certainly going in some interesting directions.. Since the last record blew up & she became a celebrity with a supermodel partner, I still have high hopes for the next record.
Also, Krokodil is one the her absolute best songs.

I've read that each song on Actor was inspired by a different movie (I believe The Wizard of Oz was one of them). Has anyone ever heard which movie goes with each song?

NO. Never heard that before. Interesting. I guess I have some reading/research to do today.parasolmonster wrote:I've read that each song on Actor was inspired by a different movie (I believe The Wizard of Oz was one of them). Has anyone ever heard which movie goes with each song?

I could see Marrow working with The Wizard of Oz.

Having read up a very little bit on this, I've seen mentions of The Wizard of Oz, Badlands, and various 30s & 40s Disney films. This is really cool.

I've never heard of Badlands before. Are you familiar with it?

Indeed. I love it. It's either #1 or #2 on my Malick list. It depends on the day.parasolmonster wrote:I've never heard of Badlands before. Are you familiar with it?

I just checked the IMDB summary for Badlands. Looks like I need to see this one. I lived in South Dakota for seven years, so they had me on the setting alone.

Oh man, you haven't seen it yet? Whooo! You're in for a treat. It's a great film. Beautiful. Unsettling. Well made. Awful and beautiful. I love it. I'm so excited for you.parasolmonster wrote:I just checked the IMDB summary for Badlands. Looks like I need to see this one. I'm a film nerd, but my big gaps in "OMG! You haven't seen it?!" are The Godfather films and anything from Malick.
Anyway, once I finally watch Badlands I'm curious if I can place what song fits in with the film.

Re: St. Vincent - S/T (Feb 25)
I hated The Thin Red Line. Put me off Malick for a long time. The Tree of Life turned me around on him. I love that movie. From there I saw Badlands and Days of Heaven (both outstanding films) and To The Wonder (which was mediocre at best). But I certainly wouldn't classify Malick as an "OMG You haven't seen..." film maker. A lot of people haven't seen his work. A lot of people who have wish they hadn't.parasolmonster wrote:I'm a film nerd, but my big gaps in "OMG! You haven't seen it?!" are The Godfather films and anything from Malick.

You should absolutely watch the first two Godfather films. Like, now.

I have read many people saying that Tree of Life is fantastic. I'm a Chris Nolan nerd, and I know he has spoken very highly of it as well.

Marrow is still my favorite St. Vincent song, even though Strange Mercy & S/T are the best albums.

Re: St. Vincent - S/T (Feb 25)
After listening to it on a drive the other night with the Mrs., I think Strange Mercy is my favorite album even though S/T has better songs. Digital Witness and both versions of Your Lips Are Red are probably my favorite songs.
