I was starting to think maybe Pedro would fall to me.

Without a doubt. He should've been #1, the guy who should've been #2 is still out there, and Maddux should've been #3.

There's no shame in taking Bonds first.
Please consider voting for me

No, there definitely isn't. He was a no doubt first rounder, went #3 last time, and has produced solidly in the tournaments he's appeared in. He definitely wasn't gonna make it back to me at #16.

phil has been around long enough to know he should've PMd one of us his pick if he was leaving for the night.

Let's just say he'd better make sure John Olerud doesn't make it to the 16th pick...cutuphalfdead wrote:ban phil

Sorry guys. I fell asleep. I still haven't researched it at all, but I don't want to slow things down too much, so I'll take Randy Johnson.

I made a Top Ten Power Rankings in my head, and Pedro-Randy-Maddux were 1-2-3.
Good pick.

I was hoping Pedro would fall to me, but Johnson was unbelievable in the last franchise tournament.

Alright, I think I'm gonna go to bed. Once we get through round one, the clock officially starts on all picks (clock rules are explained in the OP). I'm gonna PM a proxy list to chud so that if you guys get back to me while I'm passed out, I won't hold you up.
Also, side thing to consider...instead of just having one division with everyone playing everyone else eight times and the top three teams making the playoffs, what if we went with two four team divisions and then had the winners meet in the World Series? You would play the other three teams in your division twelve times, and the teams in the other division six times (for a total of sixty games). I actually really like the idea of an old school pennant race down the stretch, but if everyone else hates it, we'll scrap it.

Yeah, he was absolutely ridiculous. Even better than Maddux was in the LCS Tournament, and probably almost as good as Pedro was in the first Franchise one.philpritchard wrote:I was hoping Pedro would fall to me, but Johnson was unbelievable in the last franchise tournament.

I have a few ideas of how to split up the teams, but I think it would make for some heated rivalries and high-pressure matchups down the stretch.philpritchard wrote:I like it.

I had absolutely no idea this started until CHUD texted me last night at midnight. It's going to take me a little bit.

I sent chud a proxy list of like 15-20 names. Hopefully that'll cover me through at least the first turnaround.
Happy drafting, guys.

Re: Steroid Era (1986-2005) Tournament: Round 1 - skitch
I took a glance at the Franchise II leaderboards to see how our first four picks performed...
Bonds .270, 12 HRs, 31 RBI, .440 OBP, .505 SLG
Maddux 9-3, 3.00 ERA, 10/15 QS, 1.022 WHIP, 7.1 K/9
Martinez 8-2, 3.03 ERA, 12/16 QS, .916 WHIP, 9.2 K/9
Johnson 10-0, 2.24 ERA, 13/15 QS, .997 WHIP, 11.2 K/9
Maddux was on two teams, but those are the numbers of the superior Maddux. Maddux and Pedro both had better numbers in other tournaments though (not that those numbers from the last one weren't great). I think Bonds also performed better in Franchise I.
