I feel the same. The composition AND the production seems similar to Chasing Light.
The production on Chasing Light was top notch. It was all recorded on vintage analogue equipment, and was beautifully done.

Yes sir! I loved the production through out the entire album. If PJ were to ever go that route I can only imagine the kind of magic they would create.

I'm going to say that its going to change daily and on Thursday will become a button....and when we push it it will play MYM...or make a funny farting sound. ..but I'm betting on MYM.
Considering that you called yesterday's announcement in detail right down to the video and backing track; I know your right.
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

I did didn't I ...well what do ya know. :-D although someone on fb added silverware to eachside and mind your manners to the top as his guess for the artwork and it looked pretty good....but I still think a button of some kind.

If they even ask about the reactions it got, Tim will just show them what I'm sure are numerous "THANK YOU PEARL JAM/TEN CLUB FOR ALL YOU DO!" posts from the Pit today.

guys, the new album is titled dinner plate. i didn't want to spill the beans but looks like it's ok now.
I think I got it, guys. It's a concept album centered on a child who didn't mind his manners at the dinner table and finish his food. There will be a song called "There are kids starving in Africa" after Mind Your Manners, which is the album opener. The third song will be about traveling to South Africa. The rest of the album is a collaboration with the South African Choir.

I was up at 3am too with a teething toddler but I didn't check my phone until 7 this morning. Arse.

And those 2 tracks aren't that promising to me. The first sounds like a part of a greater song with the guitar track solo'd (isolated). If that is a part/full mix then damn me that's dull. The 2nd could be okay but whoever was talking about Matt's ride cymbal obsession is right. It sounds like a prog drumkit, way too clean and bright.

The ride cymbal sounds like that because Matt's hitting the bell (the little dome part in the centre of the cymbal) which is meant to sound like that.

I am. But this is the start of their whole process of rolling out the album, and while I think this was not a good place to begin, I also want to reserve final judgement until we see how the entire thing plays out.

The crux of this may be that they formally announced a tour (that we all knew was coming) before an album (that we all knew was coming). Put that way (if that's all it is) we'll have a lot of sound and fury over wanting two pieces of information in a different order. Yesterday will still be a let down no matter what, but a pretty forgivable one in the long term (f they do the rest of this properly)

On the plus side of yesterday:

1. I like the clock countdown for each new piece of information
2. They did announce a major piece of news (not as exciting as album news, but still major)
3. We got (presumably) one-two little song clip teasers
4. We have the countdown for the next piece of information (and I think people like having the deadlines for knowing that something is coming, and the clock is preferable to the little birds)
5. They've started (presumably) releasing the artwork.

I had outsized expectations for yesterday, as did almost everyone. That was on PJ. On the other hand, now I'll enjoy the slower reveal. They are forcing foreplay on us. It sucks if you really want sex right now, but you probably wont' regret it when it is over.

(this is not me being an apologist for the band. I just think people's reactions to events should be commensurate to what actually happened). Yesterday was hardly an unqualified success. But there was some cool stuff there and, having slept on it, it was hardly a huge failure either.

Thanks for the info sarge. I guess in my 24 years playing drums it never dawned on me. And I'm not a Zildjian fan, especially the bell or their chinas.

I can't really imagine what Ed will be doing over this. It's interesting and could offer up something new. It doesn't seem a good fit but that's probably my mind being a cynical turd.

I felt that was pretty bad. If you're going to do a big countdown buildup, you better reveal the whole damn thing when the time's up, not another countdown to another countdown to another fucking countdown.

I'm liking both "samples" from that YouTube clip.

Give me something dark, Pearl Jam.
