Persistent fear as a parent: my daughter will smile and wave at a white person, then turn and cry when she sees a black person.

Re: Election 2016
So now that the electoral college has cost democrats 2 elections in 5 (and several court appointments as well), do you still think its not a big deal?

As somebody from a majority vote country, the US and UK systems have always been a joke. You get the majority in a Province, you win provincial government, you get the majority in the country, you win national government. Simple.

Geezes spenno
Look, protesters are generally an irritant at the best of times, however it's difficult to have any degree of indulgence for a bunch of morons protesting against the clear winner of a fair, democratic vote. There are people in the world who I'm sure would gladly protest for the right to free elections, etc.

Is the electoral college vote a fair democratic vote? Republicans have won their last two presidencies through the electoral college. So what the point of even having people vote?

You know what's going to be the most annoying thing if Trump creates a fascist state based on racial purity, the purging of undesirables, and power concentrated in the hands of one party nationwide? All of the "I told you so!" posts on social media. And the best thing will probably be the roads; fascist states always seem to have good roads.

who here expected obama to be assassinated, or at least very public attempts on his life? and i don't just mean threats or uncovered plots, but a public situation in the gun was pulled or shots were fired
And they say that a hero could save us

I've never felt my empathy and compassion be as tested as they are right now, because every instinct in me is telling me that all conservatives are fucking idiots and I don't want anything to do with them. Which makes me profoundly sad. I don't want to feel this way.

You don't have to. The tribalism that results from identity politics is toxic to our souls. Reject it and watch the world come alive again.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I've never felt my empathy and compassion be as tested as they are right now, because every instinct in me is telling me that all conservatives are fucking idiots and I don't want anything to do with them. I know, but the other tribe sure doesn't make it very easy. And it's hard to keep that human torch burning when so few others do.Bi_3 wrote:You don't have to. One of my most liberal feminist friends, yesterday, admitted that she feels like she ought to buy a gun now. Over the past year, I also watched a friend go from moderately conservative to full blown libby. So, LV, the moral of the story is this: things change, are always changing and nothing stands.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I've never felt my empathy and compassion be as tested as they are right now, because every instinct in me is telling me that all conservatives are fucking idiots and I don't want anything to do with them. Also, Colorado has a very strong sense of it's own statehood, so you're in a good place - as Colorado is also changing. The moral of that story, is that our local issues are a lot more important than anything the orange skinned shit gibbon is doing in Washington.

The world is already coming alive again. Russia, China, and Islamic State have all expressed excitement at the opportunities this will open up for them.Bi_3 wrote:You don't have to.
