I think what LV means (and he can correct me if I'm wrong) is that this is already being discussed as "the day everything changed"; you can see it in the way people are reminding each other that "the sun will rise tomorrow, no matter what." The rhetoric surrounding the events is already strikingly similar; there's no way to tell if it'll last, but it's there.doug rr wrote:wowLoathedVermin72 wrote:Yes, but Trump being elected is pretty much millennial 9/11Simple Torture wrote:I dunno, man. people are going to need to channel their Gandhi and MLK to get through this
if they are words just let them be words
they are the wrong words
but people will have to be strong; and remain peaceful, and do the right thing because it is right; and not react with violence
this will pass
its is awful
it will test a new generation that hasn't faced this kind of adversity
and make them stronger afterward
if they respond peacefully and with dignity

I was being semi-facetious. But I definitely don't think it's true that "nothing has changed" with Trump's election.doug rr wrote:i get that but hopefully he said it in the wrong way...things changed forever on 9/11..nothing has changed todaySimple Torture wrote:I think what LV means (and he can correct me if I'm wrong) is that this is already being discussed as "the day everything changed"; you can see it in the way people are reminding each other that "the sun will rise tomorrow, no matter what." I do think there is some validity to this being a seismic shift in millennial culture, since it so based in optimism and progressivism. It's like pop culture as a big diversity celebration. This is putting a huge roadblock into that narrative. Things are going to get a lot darker in millennial culture.

Re: Election 2016
Perhaps. I see a bit of what you're saying about the optimism as a cultural dominant; when I was 18 and studying literature, the coolest thing in the world was existentialism. The whole idea of a Sisyphean view of the world gave me a giant boner. When I read the same books with my students, their responses tend to be, "This book proves that if you work hard enough, things will eventually get better!"LoathedVermin72 wrote:I was being semi-facetious. If you're going to capitalize the first letter of every word, why not just out the caps-lock on and be done with it?B wrote:

In defense of the Republicans, maybe their economic plans will be effective. After all, most of them still have jobs.
