Yea, that's what I want to know? I think some people are referring to the dinner plate symbol but I wouldn't consider that artwork that has anything to do with the album.
I would bet what little money I have that this is MYM single artwork, to be fully revealed by Thursday in conjunction with the song.

Then again, I've lost what little money I have betting on Ten Club before, so...
sticking with the dinner plate idea, maybe this minding your manners is about eating all the food on your plate b/c pearl jam is trying to end world hunger thru the global citizen campaign.
And where was that dinner plate at? I just see the same countdown clock that opened when the first countdown ended

Im tired of saying countdown

Matt uses both a splash and a china at different points on Binaural.
I'm pretty sure he's never used a cowbell. I think there's cowbell overdubbed in The Fixer, but it's not part of the whole kit and may not even be him playing it.
Fair points, and yeah there was splash and china in Binaural... something as small as that might make it my favourite drumming album from Matt. On the whole I didn't go WTF through any of it, and I usually do. My biggest WTF's have been in You Are ("Why aren't you smashing the hi-hats at this point; closed, ALL THE WAY THROUGH?") and probably Severed Hand (again, closed hi-hats until near the end.

I appreciate Blenheim's point that his influences (namely Copeland) steer clear of rock cliches. Maybe I feel that PJ as a band don't, so it's a mismatch when he does. The Police as an entirety steered away from the cliches; they were heavily influenced by ska (and influenced ska in turn) and maybe I just feel that PJ as a whole are nowhere near as innovative, so I'd rather Matt just did what I expect. Like the bitch that he is.
I agree with you about the closed high-hat. I think it makes PJ sound too stiff. The loose high-hat would give it more flow. This has been a big complaint of mine for years about "Faithfull" live. During t,he "echoes" part Matt closes the high-hit. On the album, the cymbals are ringing, and to these ears, it sounds brilliant; live, that part is stiff.

I disagree however, about the ride. From that snippet at the end of the tour video, the guitar / drum (snare/kick) thing sound great, then the ride cymbal (dome/bell part) kicks it up a notch. It reminds me somewhat of the 3:50 to 4:04 part of "Jesus Christ Pose", which I personally think is Matt Cameron at his absolute best.
Yeah. I'm pretty sure I'll get used to it, even hopefully like it eventually. If I dig the rest of the song, that's a very good start.

We've talked about this several times before but the guitars in the S/T video sound raw and RAD. Production clearly got in the way.
Pretty sure the S/T clips are from the AOL sessions, well after the recording was finished....which means precisely dick about how they had them sounding in the studio.

And wrong.

AOL sessions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIPgQ8K-NtU

A perfunctory comparison with the EPK quickly turns into a contrast.

The general point is that the production of S/T got in the way of what could have been a very raw and more agressive guitar attack. So, it really doesn't matter what clips we talk about in the end.

I still find you endlessly charming though. You're the Cary Grant of my life.

You're "2 AM" is a really solid, late period look that often takes people by surprise.

I wouldn't dare to disagree with this. It's a terrible sounding record. It should literally be next to impossible to make something that fucked up sounding in even a midrange home studio.

It would be nice to get such a thing from Pearl Jam.

Interestingly enough, Magic suffers from almost exactly the same frequency problems as S/T. No space between instruments, the low end is mud, the guitars are often EQ'd into a feeling of being "sharp," the dynamics are compressed into nothingness....and it was mastered by the same team, not long after s/t was.

Yup. The closed hats on the intro, particularly, are really hard to explain.
Green Disease suffers greatly from this too. Love the song, but the intro is rocking and then just comes to a screeching halt once the verse kicks in. Live is jarring than the studio version.

Brendan at work!! Besides all that, to my ears Magic is "his best since" Tunnel of Love. Really like that record a lot.

With Bruce, he's a lot more involved in the mastering process, and he seems to favor that brittle, sharp sound (The River, Born in the USA). There's been speculation that he has some loss of hearing in the range that produces that.

In both cases, I'd lean toward blaming Bob Ludwig, but I don't think s/t even has a mastering credit listed on the sleeve. If I'm remembering right.

Isn't Ludwig the guy who saved his ass on figuring out the right sound for BTR?

The good news is that in the other video clip that I also saw of the song intro (I can't remember where, but it was posted here), there was a section with just hats and rim-shots. That suggests that there is some build-up from quiet to loud in that intro. I'm hoping he lets loose at some point in the song, even if it's just the latter part. There might be a fucking awesome smashy thrashy instrumental section.

Anyone know where this video might be? I don't recall seeing/hearing it but it sounds interesting now.
