It's a totally fair criticism, and the reason we've avoided it in the past...But the grocery scene here in Big Sky is ROUGH. Blue Apron is a big step up in terms of variety and convenience. We'll see how we feel about the price point in a few weeks.

i wasn't being a critic..sorry..i'm just going off of the slickly produced commercials that I see from them..when we lived in nyc, fresh direct just started up and they gave you a something stupid like your first $50 of groceries were free if you signed up..we tried it and decided to gamble on meat and vegetables...big mistake..maybe I'm old school but I like to pick those things out myself..whats the problem with your local grocer selections?

OMG, it's brutal. A pint of organic blueberries is $14; salad greens are consistently kept on the shelf past their date, and become pure chlorophyll within a matter of days; a half-gallon of organic whole milk is about $2 more than in any other city.

It's a resort town, with about 3000 year-round residents, and the nearest city is an hour away. I am trying to morph the ice cream co into a food & bev distribution business (was pitching to a grant committee in Helena this morning for this very project). We actually get amazing meat and fish, and there is a terrific grain operation in MT that sells great product at affordable costs (like, absurdly good deals on a big bag of pre-ground flax). But everything else is coming in from so far away, and is purchased in a volume and frequency that leads to quick spoilage. I dare say Big Sky is the perfect market for Blue Apron.

how much are the non organic blueberries?

Like $9. Non-organic raspberries and strawberries are more reasonable -- probably $6-7 in Big Sky. Everything in Bozeman is reasonably priced, so we usually do a grocery run there once a week (I have a portable fridge in my vehicle). But if you need to come up with a meal at the last minute in Big Sky, you're screwed.

Christ I'm swimming in blueberries, over here. Sometimes, I'll waste one and throw it at the wall just to see how mad my wife gets...and who she blames it on.

Blueberries are so plentiful and cheap here that sometimes I just buy them, take them home, and throw them straight in the trash.
