That's one option. But it only really works if those plates are actually valuable. Replacing the cut glass is an expense, and also a hassle. I think we're on the right track, but there may still be a better option.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Adhere the cabinet door to the shelves with tape, on the top and bottom of the door. Remove the hinges. One person holds the door in place while another removes the tape. Slide the door up slowly, being careful to keep the door flush with the shelves and plates. Once the bottom lip of the door has reached the plates, slowly tilt the top of the door outward. You'll continue to hold the bottom lip in place, supporting the plates, while opening the top of the door like a dishwashing machine. If the plates fall and break, you weren't working with enough patience and intention.

You probably can't slide the door up because of the ceiling. Besides, I think it would make more sense to slide it down.

I considered this heavily. I went with up because it would work in my own kitchen, and it's not like I have ridiculously high ceilings or anything; meanwhile, a downward movement would almost certainly hit the counter in every kitchen in the world.
