Do you guys really think GA will be that bad? It's all 10C members...will there really be a lot of pushing and shoving and spilling of drinks?

I was in the pit for Randall's Island in '96 and did almost get puked on as we waited for PJ to come on, but times have changed.

GA was well behaved in Missoula last year, I would expect the same

As long as you're not gonna be one of those people racing to be at the front, you shouldn't have a hard time finding a spot where you won't feel claustrophobic but still have a really good vantage point. If been in the GA section for almost every Springsteen show I've ever seen and every U2 show I've been to post-Popmart, and if you wait till the rabid people pack themselves as tightly as possible against the stage, you can almost always get a really great, accessible spot not far behind them.

Really? I am not one of those arms crossed slugs that goes to every show. I go to a couple a tour. Why should I sit at the back of the floor, while people who just joined gets wings closer to the stage? Sorry, I never disagreed with lottery rows, even though that bumped me a "bit". This bumps me way more than a bit.
people aren't owed anything just because they've been a fan longer. If you are such a hardcore fan, get there early and prove it.
I think fans with low numbers are owed something, and for good reason: I can't tell you how many times over the years, the 10C threatened to cancel our numbers if we didn't renew membership by a certain date. They clearly put a high value on seniority and low numbers.

Now, with this latest move, seniority means even less. They were on their way with this with the lottery and the rows 1-2, 9-10 thing, but their message is now very clear.

All that said, if you still want great seats, I have two words: "Stub Hub." When I lost the Vedder solo lottery, I almost dropped a grand for third row seats - I say "almost," because in the end I decided it wasn't worth it, but I know it's there if I need it.

That's pretty much where I've netted out on this. It is what it is, but please don't defend 10C on this one.

This is a really good point. The fans didn't create the culture of 10C seniority, the 10C did.

It's not going to be a raging circle pit with crowd surfing, it'll be the same 10C dudes bobbing their heads and staring longingly at Eddie Vedder (just more of them packed into a smaller space.) It'll be fine.

Which is exactly why people saying that the band switched to GA because it's sick of looking at the same deadbeat, emotionless fans show after show doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Sure it does. It just won't be the EXACT same deadbeat, emotionless fans right up front. Other people will get to exp it.

Exactly, I think it's a great idea (both from fan and band perspective.)

The people who most want to be up the front will be up the front.

How many of those deadbeat, emotionless fans go to every show? And of them, how many do you think the band (1) notices, and (2) remembers to the point that, 3 years later, it says "I don't want to see that one douchebag that stands in front of Mike with the horse mask and leash every night on this upcoming tour, so we should switch to GA?"

As people point out, this is about $$$$$.

Never done it before but I think they'll like it, I might even wear my free the wm3 shirt.
And I'm far from emotionless, I'll mosh your ass right out of the pit.

That was pretty awful at Midtown. I think that experience has jaded me and is why I'm only requesting reserved seating for the Charlotte show.
GA always sucks, i want a little bit of personal space, even though it can get crowded with the seats there, it still helps me feel a bit more comfortable. If people who show up later or plan on making a beer run every 10 minutes instead of enjoying the show would stay in the back then all would be good, but those dicks think they deserve to be up front more then us that are there on time and want to stay in our spot the whole show.

It'll be fine unless US fans get over excited at being able to move or rowdy cos other people are closer to them than they're used to from the usual seating situation.

I was in Belfast a few yeas ago, PJs first time there, thought the front would've insane. We got right up front had plenty of room and everyone was civil and respectful to each other.

It'll be fine.

As to that moshing remark, you'll very probably find yourself being warned to relax and if you don't, escorted out. Seen that happen a good few times at PJ shows in Europe the last few years.

I really don't think it has anything to do with money. They just want to feel some more energy at the front. Even with the lottery rows, there's still a great deal more separation between each audience member. Looking at rows and rows of people standing a metre away from one another, nervously looking to check that nobody steps on their poster, can't be very gratifying for the band. People will be tightly-packed in the first few rows of GA, sure, but that creates a certain energy that wouldn't be there otherwise and the band obviously think that's worth having.

I think the objections are silly. Do you go to other shows by smaller bands in clubs and theatres? Aren't they all GA? Aren't audiences (generally) well-behaved and respectful? So, what's the deal?

Well he kinda has a point there spenno.

If the usual band of queue nazis are there, they take all the fun out of hanging out a lot of the time and when it comes to actually being inside and being up front they can be way way ott a lot of the time.

They were diapers for adults in order not to lose their spot for chrissakes
I'm not kidding.

Comparing GA shows of smaller bands at clubs and theatres with GA Pearl Jam shows at large arenas is apples and oranges.

I don't know, I think it's exactly the same just on a larger scale. Rock bands like playing to an energetic and appreciative audience.

As an audience member, I prefer GA so I can find my own space to enjoy the show wherever I want.
