i love The Atlantic, but this thing getting airtime is obnoxious. this is such a minority of people in the U.S. and there were like 3 people who 'heiled'
i find them all detestable,
but if major news outlets want to go and find the one 200-person gathering of semi-nazis in the US and then float the picture of 3 'heiling'; it does not mean that the entire country or even a significant portion of the country thinks this way;
but it starts to bend people out of shape like its a meaningful reality.
when the famine in Somalia happened; news reporters circulated pictures of only the most severely starving people there. painted a far worse picture than it really was (not saying it was great). the sample was not representative of the population. this wound up being termed 'disaster pornography'
there is a lot of 'disaster pornography' going around these days in the wake of the trump victory
