actually, i think it depends on the venue most often.Birds in Hell wrote:Isn't this the normal way to see a rock band? Are seated shows more prevalent in the States or something? Re: Fall 2013 North American Tour
I been to tons of rock/metal shows over the years that were way more intense than you'd ever expect from a PJ show, and even at those shows you can always find a nice place to stand relatively close to the stage without being jostled about.
After many years as a 10C member, I gave up my membership earlier this year. My number was 133,101, so I had some GREAT seats over the years, but I think these guys are well past their prime as a live band and my tastes have changed a little bit too (not to mention all the 10C bullshit, which has certainly soured me on keeping a membership). I have an 11 yr. old who I'd love to take to a show sometime, so if they ever play near us again I'm sure I'll catch another show. Guess I'll just have to sit back with the rest of the plebians this time around.

Re: Fall 2013 North American Tour
It absolutely depends on the venue. I had no problem seeing Pearl Jam at the Vic in 2007. It was small. But with an arena, I don't feel particularly thrilled about standing 100 yards away from the band or, if I want to get closer, having to get to the arena 3 hours before the show. That sucks.

Re: Fall 2013 North American Tour
GA shows are great when you're in your teens and 20's. 30's, 40's, 50's, not so much. You think the members of Pearl Jam would want to go see Rolling Stones standing in a GA pit at an arena? I think not. As others have said, a GA club show is very different to a GA arena floor show. That said, I don't even like GA club shows anymore - prefer to sit in balcony or stand in balcony. I'm old and I want to pee and drink and pee, etc. And who wants to get there hours early for a spot?
I get why they are doing it and it's fine; but it does ruin most of the fan club appeal except for the very low #s that will get side stage low.

Guys, it's going to be fine. I'm positive there'll be plenty of space to enjoy the show.

I have no problem with GA shows. I like the energy and i like being able to move from spot to spot if its not too crowded. My relationship with GA PJ shows? There are some major a-holes out there. Ltos of bros who drink too much and party too much. They cause shit and punch and push just to get closer. That is not what a typical rock show is in many clubs around the country. Id say a good stereo type of PJ fans are not actual fans of music but rather like to party and drink lots of shitty beer and let loose for a couple hours.
The only reason to be in this shitty fan club is because of ticket seniority. They have been hanging it over our heads for 15 years. Fan club seniority. Sure, its lame, and i made the choice to keep renewing. But as stated before, 10c cultivated this and now they have kind of taken it away from us idiots who decided to pay the ridiculous fees for the past 15 years. Now why be in the fan club?

Yeah you haven't seen old guys in a GA section of a rock concert unless you've been to an AC/DC concert in the last five years. It's so weird it's awesome.

If only they made PJ boxers.
You could go to the show and be naked, just wear pj socks on boxers and have your better half lead you on a chain connected to a pj dog collar.
You'd have all the room you wanted right upfront of the GA section:)

One thing about the GA this time around vs in past years is it will be all fan club so there should be less assholes.
The 1998 shows (a loooooong time ago) were brutal for me; I was front center for maybe half a dozen and only made it through half the show usually.

Re: Fall 2013 North American Tour
I have no problem with GA houses at most rock shows. In fact, I prefer GA floor/ no seats on the floor. And I've never been on the floor for a PJ show. But I can tell you that in NYC specifically, crowds are dicks. All of my least favorite experiences with GA floor locs at rock shows have been in NYC. It doesn't always ruin a show for me, or anything. I usually make it work.
But I think there's less hassle/more enjoyment for me at this point in the seated sections. I won't sit. I'll be up the whole time. But I can usually handle the people better.

I go to GA metal shows and dont have a problem. Are PJ fans worse than that? I've never had a problem.
and anyway stop being so old. its a rock show not your kid's dance recital.

Yes, none of us are sitting at a PJ concert. It's just about having space and an assigned area.durdencommatyler wrote:I have no problem with GA houses at most rock shows. Re: Fall 2013 North American Tour
This is very interesting to me. As I mentioned before, I've been to many, many metal shows over the years and, even into my 30's, I enjoyed being in the pit and getting after it a bit. There was the ocassional asshole, but they were very few and far between. Even in the "cirlce pit" people are awesome and there to have a good time. It is understood that it will be physical, but everyone is on the same team.Strat wrote:I have no problem with GA shows. I think with a metal show, you are probably dealing with experienced pit-goers, where at a PJ show you might end up with a bunch of douche bags who have no idea how to behave in a GA setting.

Re: Fall 2013 North American Tour
I'd like to think the fact that the GA is limited to 10C members might make it a little more civilized, but to be totally honest, I usually don't pay much attention to who's around me at these shows. I feel like I would know if someone had been all that obnoxious or drunk in the 10C seats.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?
