Whatever awards format makes you comfortable. The Rimmys are open to all.tragabigzanda wrote:I feel a little hemmed in by this format, so I'm updating an older post I made:

Album of the year for me was probably Cavern of Anti-Matter's Void Beats/Invocation Trex.
I also enjoyed:
King Crimson - Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind
Nels Cline - Lovers
Pye Corner Audio - Stasis
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - EARS
FIRE! - She Sleeps, She Sleeps

More than any of the other albums on my list, though I really liked all of them.

Well, Goodness by The Hotelier is my recommendation, but I also like Car Seat Headrest a lotKevin Davis wrote:What were some good, fresh-sounding rock albums that came out this year? Great year for jazz, hip-hop, singer-songwritery stuff, etc., but most of the critically lauded "indie rock" records left me pretty cold (Parquet Courts, Car Seat Headrest, etc. -- blech).

Yeah, I don't really feel solid in my picks until a few months into the following year -- I usually play a lot of catch-up at Christmas.

Re: 2016 Rimmy Awards: Top 5 albums of 2016
A friend and I have made top ten lists each of the last 10-15 years... We solidify our top ten before the end of January, and then we can have as many honorable mentions as we want, which aren't ranked higher or lower than each other, but just to have a complete list of the albums we enjoyed while in that year. Once past ten, I find it rather difficult to rank albums. Also, there's a separate list altogether for albums missed or discovered at a later date.Kevin Davis wrote:Yeah, I don't really feel solid in my picks until a few months into the following year -- I usually play a lot of catch-up at Christmas.
That being said, here's my current top 5:
1. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
2. Bowie - Blackstar
3. School of Seven Bells - SVIIB
4. The Claypool Lennon Delirium - The Monolith of Phobos
5. The Kills - Ash & Ice
This most likely will not change, but 6-10 are still a bit up in the air. I know RNDM will get ranked, but it won't crack the top 5, for sure.

Very cool song. She's 63 by the way (!)tragabigzanda wrote:Thumbs up, VG. Kim Gordon's Murder Out was definitely one of my favorite songs this year, I feel bad for overlooking it in the top five songs thread. And I totally would have listed Ring Spiel if I hadn't already been listening to it for years.
