Alright, so I started listening to the new Bon Iver because of you guys. The first few listens I was actively hating it because it felt like I couldn't like it but that I knew I should. Dunno how to really write that one out. It was making me mad, for real. Like, part of me was mad it wasn't a Kanye record and part of me was mad it sounded like a Kanye record...that kind of thing.

Then after three or four listens it started to grow on me. I think I just had a chance to delve into it and get 'used' to the aesthetic. I just hope it's not one of those albums that burns so bright you lose interest after a month or so.

It's truly annoying listening to an album and you get an amazing intro and then the song proper starts and you wonder if the file got corrupted or combined with a different band or something. It's like...if you could just edit the song part out but leave the intro, bridge, choruses, and outro it would be amazing.

In unrelated news it's a shame that a talented guitarist like Wes Borland was saddled with such a twat lyricist.

I love "Moonlight in Vermont" so much, especially Johnny Hartman's version

The lyrics are amazing; barely any rhymes
Pennies in a stream
Falling leaves a sycamore
Moonlight in vermont

Gentle finger waves
Ski trails down a mountain side
Snowlight in vermont

Telegraph cables, how they sing down the highway
As they travel each bend in the road
And when people meet, in this romantic setting
They're so hypnotized by the lovely

Evening summer breeze
Sweet warblings of the meadowlark
Moonlight in vermont

Not a great example because you have to have been in the same frame of mind I was in yesterday to actually want to listen to Limp Bizkit... ...but anyway.

Show Me What You Got

Seriously though, Otto and Borland go very well together.

And now that I'm not in the same frame of mind, "amazing" may have been too strong a word to use. But I was in the mood to 'rock out' as the kids say* and since I was listening to my Live playlist, Limp Bizkit was the closest thing I had on hand.

Spoiler: show
fucking work.

That was really terrible. No part of that was good.

Holy fuck, that's one of the worst things I've ever heard. That said, I can see what you mean about Borland's guitar, bune. I like little things he was doing in the background. Unfortunately, you have Durst delivering perhaps the absolute worst lyrics and vocals in history.

Had a bunch of emusic credits to use up a while back so i bought the entire Beach House discography, like 5 albums or something. I feel like I've been hoodwinked. Several listens into each one and I still can't tell any of the songs apart.

Listen to "Bloom" for a while and forget about the rest. The distinctions between songs will start to take shape, and it will be glorious.

Well, comparatively speaking the beginning was better than the actual singing part.

But yeah. I kind of hate that I was mad enough to listen to that album.

Also I wonder if Method Man returns Fred's call anymore.

been listening to all this 90s altrock stuff, expecting some sort of nostalgia to kick in that would let me enjoy it (the way 80s music hits me), but mostly it's just dated, dead music. And so insufferably sarcastic. Wasn't anyone real back then?

Spotify is recommending some real winners:

Hole
The Flys (Got you where I want you)
Silverchair
Our Lady Peace
Whoever sings that awful Closing Time song
Garbage

oddly enough, Sublime seems to be the realest one.

but Sonic Youth and Helmet pop up from time to time.
