not that i think he's worth more than the rumored $2.5M that DET offered him, but i fully assumed that if he walked away from DET that somebody would sign him up. he's 27 and had a productive first 48 games in the NHL.

I've overall been surprised at the money forwards in general are getting. I know thats like being surprised that home run hitters are getting big contracts, but I figured teams would be tightening the belts more this offseason.

The abyss of Julien's system?? Really!! A cup win, another finals appearance within a three year span and you call that an abyss. That system has about the best puck possession numbers in the league, so if Jagr, Seguin and a few others can't score it's not the system. I realize Julien's puck possession system does not work for everyone but if the abyss helps to let me compete for the cup then as a player I'd welcome the abyss.

Yes, Seguin will rack up more points in Dallas. He'll also never have to worry about his nightlife behavior in the month's of May and June affecting his play.

That doesnt mean it was smart to trade him for 20 cents on the dollar.

I think that is totally discounting that Eriksson makes them a better team for the next two or three seasons and what Morrow and Fraser have the potential to be. I am far happier having Eriksson and an extra $2 million cap space to put towards another player than having Seguin alone. I only scored one less goal than Seguin did in the playoffs. I think you are vastly over rating him for at least the first half of his new contract.

Something came out today about the Bruins hiring a guard to keep Seguin in a hotel room at night during the playoffs so he wouldn't go out partying. Not sure how much that was dramatized, but it's so far fetched it just might be true.

i think it depends on the player.

It's every player of any profile that leaves, just about every time. Whenever someone with notoriety leaves, the team feeds the media a bunch of horror stories and they always run with it. It's turned out to be bs sometimes(when theo left the first time in 06 or whatever it was comes to mind.) I'm not saying some of them dont deserve it, but the fact that they do it every time makes it tiresome and suspect.
