Is it lame to quote yourself? Anyways, if the above is correct, Pittsburgh and Buffalo would be pre-release and Worcester would be on release day. But this is still good news for me since I'll likely be going to either Brooklyn or Philly. Just in time!
Be careful what you wish for with new material being added to the setlists.

I truly don't understand, especially in this day and age, why they would wait 3 months to release the album after the single. That's just silly.

I don't understand that model either. Release a single and then the album 3-4 weeks later.

Yep.

I think it's just fear of change. Or rather just habit. It's what's always been done! I love this band but they're hardly innovative thinkers.

Let's not get our knickers in a twist about our interpretation of a Java script.

Having said that, I saw them in London in 2009 when they debuted Supersonic. The Fixer was out but the album wasn't so there is a precedent. Fortunately the album that they were to release was such a bag of shit that I didn't really mind hearing songs from albums between 1991 and 2006.
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

the album may not be ready yet for release (printing, distribution, etc). Just a guess.

Except they probably need to start the tour prep now.

I'd rather get the single now and then they can at least play it at Wrigley with people knowing it.

It would. Unrealistically so.

The simple fact is that your once-revolutionaries turned habit-driven fuddy-duddy way before their time.

This is not any different than the rumored chain of events that we already had.
There is much more opportunity for buzz, press, promotion, etc. to not release the album till Oct.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

why is a long build less cutting edge than a quick announcement/release?

also, out of curiosity, is it even physically possible for you to post anymore without saying that pearl jam is a bunch of washed up has-beens and that the people who still like them are somehow lying to themselves and/or have no standards?

I actually like having the single first, and then waiting a couple of months for the full album. Sure, I'll over listen to the song, but it's better than having nothing.

agreed. I also think having one or two songs you know already makes it easier to digest a new album.

of course if you don't like the single maybe that prejudices you against the album.

Now I don't know what to think
