Fingers crossed the movie is nothing like the trailers. Because... christ. But the cast is so fucking great.

Right now it's a Netflix-er, for me. Maybe reviews will change that. I don't know. But Ed Norton's in it, so I will see it eventually.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I don't think there's a soul on this planet who expects us to feel otherwise.

Ok, it's understood that the people who made the movie probably want people to be excited for it. But outside of that circle, I think my point stands. It's an unnecessary reboot of a dated flick, starting an insane person and directed by a genre grunt.

I bet LV would be super excited if not for Kurtzman's involvement.

The book is good, not great. But certainly give you a lot to think about and has great dialogue/pacing. Should make a really fun film.

haha you called it. I love Cruise and am totally down for this in theory, but Kurtzman's involvement immediately makes me suspicious. That guy is cancer.

Promising how? Emma Watson looks incredibly bored...and the overall aesthetic is bland and generic as hell.

yeah i thought that....the song, the editing, emma watson...a figure like tom hanks...ugh.

The aesthetic is dead on. It's all part of the point of the novel and what Egger's is trying to achieve. The art direction looks lights out. The movie could be a giant turd. It's too hard to tell from this first look. Could go either way. But there are things in this trailer that give me hope. These people at least read the book and seem to "get it." We'll see.
