Bands that should call it a day
Because I know some joker's going to say it: Pearl Jam
Marilyn Manson
Creed
Stone Temple Pilots (should change their name back to Mighty Joe Young)
Alice in Chains
U2
Tool
etc?

Re: Bands that should call it a day
I don't think bands break up anymore. It's way too lucrative to keep touring unless you hate your bandmates so much you want to murder them. And even then...there's always reunion tours and handlers and such.
But yes, Pearl Jam and every other band you mentioned. I'd add Smashing Pumpkins, but they broke up in 2000 and Billy's been carrying on an impostor band since 2007.

I don't really see why any bands should ever "call it a day."

Green Day for sure.
Its like they are trying so hard to be young and cool....they are the Madonna of mainstream pop punk.

I feel similarly about athletes.
Bands should call it a day when it's, for some reason, mentally or physically destructive--or it makes them just plain miserable. Why would you stop playing music? You can see the world. Meet people who like enjoy your music...and heck, play freakin' music for a living.
I don't buy the whole "legacy" crap. The Stones are still around and they've made plenty of terrible albums and songs...but people don't care or they've just forgotten the bad stuff. The good stuff lasts.
Few people think of Michael Jordan and go "Wizards!" Despite all the warnings when he came back. You've played in a band your whole life....you've played a sport your whole life. You enjoy it? You're still making money? Why stop?

Alice in Chains? Why? They seem creative enough with William and the shows are still good.

Re: Bands that should call it a day
I think as long as band has its primary members there's no reason to quit. I don't have to listen to them and I'm glad they don't care about preserving their legacy. They're musicians, so if they want to keep making music good for them.
My only wish is that bands without their primary members use an alternative name. The Who is a prime example.
I still get enjoyment seeing some well past their prime bands live. It's like an audio yearbook, taking you back in time and recalling good times, good friends and good memories. But if I want to see excitement and passion from a show, I'm probably looking towards an act with four or fewer albums.

Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

I saw "Foghat" at a state fair once with the original drummer, a bass player who had played with them for a couple years in the 80s, the guitarist from Grand Funk, and the singer from Humble Pie. If they're still going, they should probably consider stopping.

Don't know where else to put this so ill put it here. This video is all sorts of embarrassing. Ray Manzerek.....You went out on a low note my friend.

Man alive. I skimmed through a lot of it but the interviews with him and Krieger are laughable at best. The shit that comes out of their mouth is embarrassing. The last song there are girls on stage dancing and grinding and Krieger is wearing a beanie with what might be a gold chain? Lol. Its a long way from the beginning of the show where he comes out in cammo gear.
God. Glorified cover band but having 2 original members in there makes it more embarrassing.
