I truly don't understand, especially in this day and age, why they would wait 3 months to release the album after the single. That's just silly.

Heady times in the music industry. I think they'll really milk these 3 months, cause that is what is necessary in the current climate - meaning we might be getting pieces little by little for a long time. I think there's several routes they could take. I think the route they are going to be taking here is to have a sustained and sort of constant presence over the course of the next 6 months or so. The other option is to blast out the album in one big fell swoop a la Jay Z (PJ doesn't have that kind of cache right now) or Radiohead. Announce the album, put the whole thing out in a matter of a couple of weeks, and get everyone talking. The downside of that is it comes out with a bluster and is forgotten very quickly. Let's see if everyone is talking about the Jay Z album 3 months from now. Radiohead KoL sort of fell off the radar after being talked about incessantly for a few weeks, plus it just wasn't the strongest effort for them IMO.

There's the old school strategy of single, wait a couple months, album announcement, and then massive tour. I think PJ might be sticking with a slightly older rollout strategy and use a few tried and true 'new media' tactics. I'm thinking Moonlander was a little bit of an experiment to see what can and can't work. I think we'll be seeing more of these countdown clocks. Sure it can be annoying, but it's getting people to actively think about and discuss their anticipation.

Looks like we'll get a single, but I think they'll spread everything out - album name, album tracklist, interviews and profiles of the band might be steady, bit by bit. If the fans are on edge, that will mean that it's working. Release week might be some TV shows, and then the tour will keep them on the radar for awhile. There is no successful way these days of releasing music, everyone is trying to figure it out for themselves. It'll be interesting. Alot of old schoolers these days are whining about how it sucks now, but I think it actually puts more focus on the music in a strange way.

and by the way, looking at this countdown script (and assuming I read it right) I can say there's gonna be one more countdown after this one
