Yes, House of Leaves is fun. I'd call it a successful experiment. The prose won't leave an impression, but the format is so unique and really does create the story.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Have always wanted to read this. I remember the bible verse, no idea if/how it plays into the story. Beloved was an astounding read.

I've read Beloved, The Bluest Eye, Jazz, and Paradise by Toni Morrison. All have been varying levels of brilliant. But Beloved is on an entirely different level. So far Song of Solomon does not disappoint. She's just a fucking force of nature.

Reading 1984 to my son. I figure it's better to read it to him so we can talk about it than let him read it himself in school. Right now we're at the part where the windmill has been demolished. He really hates the pigs, and it's hilarious hearing him talk bad about them. We chatted for a bit last night and he asked me if that's what the election was about, if Trump was Napoleon and Hillary was Snowball. So that was a fun conversation.
