I'll be surprised if he's even active for one of the next three games.

Yeah, they can squat on him for three weeks, and it if doesn't work out they can let him walk and pad to their compensatory formula in free agency. Not much of a loss by the Pats by checking him out, and I'm surprised everyone other than possibly Dallas didn't put in a waiver claim.

It kinda seems like insurance, to me. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

On the WR front, I'm loving what Mitchell has shown that past few weeks.

This is a good one. Love how Brady buys time, but the way the ball goes over the DB's head gets me every time.

I'm so fine with the Floyd claim. He's unusual in that talents like that aren't typically available around this time of year. The loss of both Gronk and Amendola hurt a lot and Weiss said Floyd knows about 75 percent of the Pats offense, so if he can keep his head on straight for a few weeks it will be viewed as shrewd move. And if he acts up for one second, Bill will toss him.

Right. Only thing I'd add is that they likely won't get a high comp pick directly for Floyd, but indirectly it can allow them to sign another UFA without canceling out a better comp pick for someone like Hightower or Bennett should they walk.

Brady said this morning on radio that with only three healthy wide outs, he was happy to basically get any help he could get. Basically said that it's up to Floyd now and he'll create the roll for himself based on how well he plays and picks up the offense.

How come Malcolm Mitchell wasn't featured more yesterday, just Denver's coverage?

Denver's coverage, yeah. Brady only completed 16 passes, so nobody was featured unless LBs were covering Edelman.

I think it was a Herald beat writer, but he was on the radio today and the thinking behind Floyd was that he was a Pats offseason target given his talent....thinking was that he'd command about $15 mil over three years because of a few off years (this was prior to the DUI). Pats moved to pick him up now to see if can "get" the offense quickly. Sort of like an offseason move made during the season that could pay off really well. Fascinating on how these guys think, act and manage the team.

I'm pretty sure if he walks NE gets the compensatory pick, too.

Edit: GH already said this like a week ago.

So, yeah...freaking Patriots playing chess while everybody else is playing checkers.

I think it's cute that Tomlin thinks he can win with or without an "extra day." I mean, good for him.
