Re: What movies are you watching?
Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire really does try. It's heart is in the right place but it just fells so tinny and flat would it should feel wondrous and terrifying. The climax is still thrilling and I love that how far they pushed some of the more grotesque moments there. Still, my favorite book in the series gets a fairly easy and neutered film adaptation.
On the other hand Order of the Phoenix soars. The tone, the pacing, the storytelling, the visuals, nearly everything is in top form. Some of the VFX feel dated, sure, but only a few. And the stuff with the prophecy is woefully mishandled and dumbed down. But otherwise, it's so tense and enjoyable and filled with the best of what makes these films so magical and relevant. Easily one of the best in the film series.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is so much better than I remembered. I think it's because I was so close to the book when the movie came out. Now that I have some distance, all the changes and cuts don't bother me. Not at all. What a great, great film. David Yates really gets this universe. I might have to rank this one over Order of the Phoenix because it doesn't have the same problems (the mishandling of the prophecy and a certain character's death) that film has. The way the major events and the mythology are handled in HBP is far more expert and satisfying than in OotP. Question becomes, is the rest of the movie better? Are the strengths in performances and cinematography enough to keep OotP ranked above HBP?
At any rate. HBP is outstanding. It's been the most rewarding to go back and revisit.

I can't wait to see Rogue One on Tuesday. I kinda feel like watching any movie between now and then is pointless.

Re: What movies are you watching?
After reading about Casey Affleck and his sexual attacks, I have zero interest in watching this movie. Don't care how good it is, or how much I love Lonergan (and Michelle Williams for that matter). I can't pretend like I could watch this movie without realizing I'm watching a fucking predator who deserves ZERO acclaim and attention for his stupid acting.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Gee, it's funny how Birth of the Nation was basically DOA when its director's sexual assault charges were unearthed but Affleck is going to be up for every major award. Can't think of any major difference between the two of them.durdencommatyler wrote:http://bust.com/feminism/18738-we-need- ... tions.htmltragabigzanda wrote:Can you link me to an article that sums it all up, I know very little about the situation; just that there was some sort of impropriety reported, and he settled out of courtdurdencommatyler wrote:After reading about Casey Affleck and his sexual attacks, I have zero interest in watching this movie.
