I greatly enjoyed it. There were some nice nods to the original film as well as some nice references to the original script.

Vader's citadel looked much like what I've envisioned these many years, and the acolytes there were a nice touch. And Vader, himself, was most impressive. Back to the evil badass he was before ROTJ castrated him. James Earl Jones even seemed to shift the timbre of his voice to match that of the first film rather than the deeper feel it had in the two sequels.

Really nice to see/ hear the nods to the REBELS tv show. That was great.

As mentioned above, it took a while to really, really feel like a Star Wars movie, but once it hits, it hits big time. I guess it was done pretty well since I was really sad when they died. I was emotionally invested even tho, going in, I didn't think any of them would survive.

If there's a movie fans of only the original movie would like, I would think this would be it. It features none of SAGA nonsense and serves as prologue for that film.

I thought Tarkin looked great. I'm guessing it was some makeup/CGI hybrid used on him. And I would swear he had a couple of lines of dialogue lifted directly from the first movie.

Leia? Not so much. They shoulda just gone with that girl from Stranger Things.

Is it officially confirmed Vader's citadel is on Mustafar?

He was. It was also nice not seeing a ton of Jedi (the OT and TFA had this as well). When you don't have jedi running all over the place their presence feels like a game changer.

This is a far more immersive and visceral Star Wars film then any before.


That's a fair point.

that's hard to say. More so than TFA, but I bet watching the OT in theaters felt the same way. You can do more with the effects now, but the impact on the viewer might have been the same. Can you imagine being in a theater in 1980 and seeing At-Ats for the first time.

Some other minor issues

While it was fun watching him work I'm not sure what the deal was with chirrut. At that point, why not make him a blind jedi in hiding? I also think the saw storyline could have been removed which would have really helped the pacing of the movie, though I liked the performance.

Some little things I really was into

I really liked the squadron leader cameos, and the way they took out the shield with the wrecked star destroyers was awesome. Was also a big fan of how they handled the planetary shield -that xwing crash was great. And showing the death of Red 5 was smart. Small nods like that were great

Yeah, I made the comment to my buds, "hey, that was Red 5!" They were like "yeah, so." I had to point out to them that was Luke's call sign.

overall I'd give this a B+/A- based on one viewing. A B movie with an A ending and some A+ moments.

he was a guardian of the temple. So perhaps he's like the force capable warrior flip side to the emperors guards. Force ability to a degree
