The complete lack of shame the Gophers have for their gang bang is disturbing to me.

If there is more evidence, then fuck em, but from what I've read, it's good to see these athletes stand up to this bullshit.an investigator who watched a video Djam took of the incident wrote that “she does not appear to be upset by the sexual activity and does not indicate that she wants it to stop … and the sexual contact appears entirely consensual.
No arrests were made, no charges were filed and a restraining order put in place by the woman was lifted by a judge after a settlement on Nov. 2.

The gang bangers likely still violated university code of conduct. I'm thinking you can't circulate a video like that. The people saying 'the video proves they are innocent' dont seem to understand that.
And basically just fuck these guys because they are gross as far as I'm concerned.

Re: College Football
Universities should have no right to decide what consensual sexual activities are acceptable in the private lives of their students (I'd say the same for employers as well), but since they are now glorified daycare centers for adults, I suppose arguing against bullshit codes of conduct is a lost cause.

Re: College Football
My suspicion is the sex hole these weirdos were taking turns with has a right not to have video of whatever it was that went on shared amongst meat heads. You don't think colleges should have guidelines in place to handle sexual harassment and assault to hold students accountable? I think what your left with in that case would be full Baylor. You never go full Baylor.BurtReynolds wrote:Universities should have no right to decide what consensual sexual activities are acceptable in the private lives of their students (I'd say the same for employers as well), but since they are now glorified daycare centers for adults, I suppose arguing against bullshit codes of conduct is a lost cause.

Re: College Football
Universities should have policies regarding reporting and counciling and the like as well as provide security on campus, but it's not the school's place to hold anyone accountable, especially if it's consensual. And if it isn't, they aren't law enforcement. They aren't qualified to fit that role and it isn't necessary for them to be. That's why we have police, criminal courts, jails, etc. It's like expecting Walmart to police its employees behavior off the clock. They aren't designed for that. Leave it to the pros.

Re: College Football
The situation has nothing to do with whether or not these low life's broke the law and everything to do with something they did violating the university code of conduct. Again, my suspicion is having a big laugh in the locker room while sharing last night's gang bang video is probably not something this woman was okay with. You could come up with a lot of other scenarios if that's not the issue.
I totally support colleges and employers being able to filter out those who are representing them in ashitty way. If i got a DUI or something tomorrow I'd probably get fired from my job and im cool with that.

Then we're very different, because if I were fired for being accused of something, or even just suspended, I wouldn't be ok with that at all. I think the "representing" thing is bullshit. I don't represent them.verb_to_trust wrote:The situation has nothing to do with whether or not these low life's broke the law and everything to do with something they did violating the university code of conduct. As for the video, I'm not sure what the laws are on consenting to being videotaped (I'm guessing you'd probably want to get that sort of thing in writing.) But there are laws for that. Employer/school codes are irrelevant.

Re: College Football
I mean, if you are found guilty, then your job or school should be the least of your worries-- it's a safe bet you won't have one. If you are not guilty, you shouldn't be affected at all, ideally. But there is this "soft" punishment that's based on less proof that I balk at. It should be all or nothing, not "well, we're 40% sure you did it, so we'll just take your job."
Getting way off topic, but I find it insane that anyone would agree to have their private lives dictated by their employer or school, and don't think they have any right to dictate that at all, even with a contract. They're like non-compete clauses in that regard. If someone can fire you for group sex, they should be able to fire you for being gay or anything else that they feel would represent them poorly. Same with schools.
But then again I think you should be able to bang gay hookers, shoot heroin and burn a Koran wrapped in an American flag while firing a fully automatic AK-47 into the air because THIS IS AMERICA GODDAMNIT

Re: College Football
I think where the disconnect is happening is this idea that being found guilty of a crime is all that should matter to a college or university. The Gophers don't want shit like this going down on their campus regardless of legality. The code of conduct exists for a reason and for things to get to this point something happened that needs to be looked into. If you don't like that, or want to do your own thing, go to school somewhere else I guess. I would be proud of my university for taking this stance. I wish people were more open minded about being held accountable for their actions. It's not a bad thing to expect a higher standard from people.

Re: College Football
the gopher basketball team had a similar issue last year- players filmed a sex session with a girl (and even posted it to twitter). how stupid do these kids have to be to do something like that again? where are the team leaders standing up and saying 'we don't want this shit from our teammates?' instead the team leaders are are standing behind their teammates and basically condoning this behavior. fuck them. say what you will about how the administration has handled this, this is a pattern of behavior any sane person would not want their university to be represented by.
ah, copperplate, a font for the truly modern man.

I don't know how far verb is willing to go, but I certainly don't want draconian bullshit like BYU's honor code. But cracking down on a gang rape comes nowhere close to that. I'm also not opposed to having different burden of proof standards here--taking away a full ride scholarship to play football is vastly different than taking away one's freedom.BurtReynolds wrote:Universities should have policies regarding reporting and counciling and the like as well as provide security on campus, but it's not the school's place to hold anyone accountable, especially if it's consensual. Re: College Football
I've read both the Pd and the schools reports (I skimmed most of the schools it was 80 pages long). Another issue might be the high school recruit that was involved in this. It's pretty outrageous for the team to expect the university not to have an issue with their scholarship athletes gang banging with a high school kid on a campus visit. There are a number of things that went wrong here, and not in a BYU you drank a beer sort of way.
