That always was the case in that scene and rogue one doesn't change that. It enhances it if anything.
That was my thinking too.
The opening scene of A New Hope now has a bit more intensity to it. We now know all the people that died getting those plans and basically a whole fleet was destroyed too.
I'd say the opposite. It showed that the rebellion even at the last minute could be super effective at striking and causing immense damage to the empire. They took out what, 2 star destroyers? 3? And brought about the destruction of that entire base. It made them appear far more effective as a force and it's somewhere in one of the canon books possibly the rogue one novelisation that that was the moment the empire really began to look at them as a serious threat.

Oh for sure. Definitely not saying they were ineffective. All I'm saying is it brought more intensity because you now knew the cost and the measures that were taken. Instead of a vague people died to get these plans.
Yeah it really did a great job of showing the rebellion as a sort of fractured collective. As a real rebellion would be. Made up of different factions wth different agendas. And finally some morally questionable actions portrayed at last. Doing bad for the greater good. Never would have imagined Disney would let them go there. Brilliant that they did though.

Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

it's just a weird choice not to make it ackbar. i know he doesn't show up til ROTJ, but he's the head of the rebel alliance and has a long history of fighting in battles, so it was a chance to give him more on screen history while making yet another direct connection to the original trilogy.
Rogue One is a darker movie with more suspense, scarier villains and more meaningful deaths (yeah, I felt worse when the droid was gunned down slowly vs. the Han death).

Me too. I was immediately sad when K2 goes whereas Han was shock. Later sadness.
I do wonder will this film affect how 8 is put together? It's probably locked already given Williams is scoring already. But still
Im excited to see this again. Im not sure if i enjoyed it more or less than TFA but im super fucking glad this film is here and part of the Star Wars universe.
Really wish they dove deeper and spent more time with Gaelyn and Krennick though. T hat is a story and two actors I would have liked to see more of.

See, I totally expected Han to die. There wasn't much suspense - even the going back and forth, it was fairly easy to guess. With K2, while we knew he (and the rest) would go down, that droid was providing vital last minute instructions that meant something to the rebellion, whereas Han was an old man who needed to go down at some point.

I was bothered by the lack of character development for any of them. Like not one. But the way it really expands and explores the rebellions dynamics made up for it.
