OH! Also, I forgot to say in my run down earlier that I loved LOVED the score. Far superior to TFA score, I thought.

I haven't sat down with it but from watching it it didn't work for me.

A lot of people have shared your opinion here. There's just something about the wavelength that Giacchino operates on that GETS me. His music always resonates with me. And I just loved how the music enhanced the movie but never pulled me out or made me focus on it first. And there are some stretches that rival some of my favorite Star Wars music. But I'm in the minority based on what I've been reading today.

I did see that, yeah. Super excited about that. I wish he'd go back and do The Force Awakens though. He kept saying he'd revisit it and expand his thoughts with some distance.

Million dollar question. Can you see yourself watching rogue one as often as you'd watch other Star Wars films?

That's difficult to answer. My instinct is yes. But it's also a very emotional film and less.... I don't know... fun than some of the others. Difficult to say right now. I'll see it again in theaters and maybe I'll have a better understanding/answer for you. Let's see what the replay value is like on the first rewatch.

Other than the opening score I rarely and focus on the music the first watch through a movie. It was fine. I didn't find myself missing John Williams, so at worst the music did what it needed to do.

That's difficult to answer. My instinct is yes. But it's also a very emotional film and less.... I don't know... fun than some of the others. Difficult to say right now. The real factor is the first watch at home under TV/Computer viewing conditions.

Clearly this is a quality star wars film. Regardless of where it ranks compared to the OT/TFA it clearly is a well made, enjoyable film that adds to the universe, and still a huge leap ahead of the prequel trilogy.

I've listened to a few of his other podcasts. Lightbulb I think it was called. Thought provoking stuff. But I love his voice mainly it's grandfatherly of senatorial but warm. Or something.

Yeah, I really enjoy his voice. Combined with his knowledge and insight, it's a knockout combo. Listening to his series on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets now and really enjoying it.

the only scene well really remember from this film in top ten lists. VADER in the corridor

Yeah, it was pretty fucking cool. Not sure it's one of my top ten scenes in the movie, though. I'll have to think about that.

The handing off of the plans was fantastic: so tense and dramatic and even though I knew they'd succeed, I was actually worried they wouldn't. Like, to the point of physical nausea. I think that Vader specifically would have had more impact if we hadn't seen him previously (that first scene in Vader's castle (LOL!) on Mount Doom was so weird and had the only cringeworthy line in the movie for me). I would have loved the "Lord Vader will take care of them" line and all the other small seemingly throw away lines ABOUT Vader and then the first you see of him is that red light saber igniting. That would have been so fucking badass.

But, yeah, it was cool to see him move and cut folks down. Still, I was more interested in how the plans ended up with Leia than I was with Vader's violence. Still, a great scene, and a great cap to a phenomenal third act of the film.

Guys, the score definitely had a lot of tie ins to the prequels. i wish i could hum it out for you but a lot of the music seemed to be similar to many scenes in the prequels. A couple notes and then it would switch. Just trust me.

Star Wars oxygen. David Collins. They have a map musically of all the Finns ruins and links Williams use throughout the films on different places. It's fascinating.

The more this movie has sat with me the more i really really am excited about it.

can't wait to get to the theater again. Maybe i wasn't all "best ever!" was because i wanted more of it. I dont know.

Sure. I get that. You could be right. Just from a storytelling standpoint I don't think it would have come across as fan service. It would have felt earned, I think, because of the myth of Vader. But I hear you. You could be right. We'll never actually know, obviously, and I'm ultimately fine with all the Vader we got.
