Her killing him? Sure. That makes sense. I was saying I never got the impression the HE wanted to kill HER.

Oh absolutely not. He wanted to either convince her to come with him or at most force her.

These what? I just saw it as he was hitting himself for the adrenalin boost the pain would give him.red calzolaio wrote:I've read some ideas as to why Kylo hit his chest prior to the fight with Rey. I always thought that was so random of him to do.
do you guys buy into any of these?

I think it was because he was bleeding, and he needed to fully focus through it.

I'd have to watch the movie again (which is on my to do list the next two weeks), but it's subtle stuff like the expression on his face, and how conflicted he is about Rey's relationship with Han, and his desire to mentor her (and in the process be a better mentor than Han was to him). He was clearly expecting to find some kind of peace after killing Han, and finds himself just as conflicted as ever.
It's says a lot about the kind of person you are that you thought that.
I'm pretty sure none of that good stuff is there. Or rather it's all there but with dark shit attached. None of it altruistic.

Maybe. But I was talking to Stips point about Rey and Kylo.
I don't think he was playing again at all. He probably fantasised about killing him (I've been waiting for this day for a long time) but he's definitely conflicted about it in the moments before he does it.

I agree he was planning on killing him. Its what he thought he HAD to do. But he was also conflicted as to whether or not he wanted to do it/it was the right thing to do, and I think he finds that killing him was not the cathartic release he thought it was going to be. In fact, it just made his internal struggle worse. This dynamic is precisely what makes Ren such a compelling character.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
I have a theory.
It isn't that R2 wakes up cos rey is back on the base.
It's cos the falcon is.
Luke lut one part of the map with lor San tekka to give to Rey and the other part in R2. He left the falcon on Jakku for Rey to eventually find it and left something inside it to reboot R2 when he came into proximity and that would enable R2 to provide the rest of the map to Rey/the resistance.
Or something

the falcon was at the base prior to R2 waking up. It was there twice.

Only briefly the first time. Plus we know he's 'defragging' indexing a download from some archive. Falcon is his wake up signal. And it might take a while for him to boot up for it.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
Guys, as much as I love this movie, R2 wakes up when he wakes up because the script needed him to. That's it. It's clunky and hokey but here we are. I'm okay with it. Ditto Starkiller Base. Neither one is ideal but they are the devices we got. And if those are the worst things in the movie...
