That one beautiful shot from the trailer when Jyn is limping towards the end of the platform and the big ship flys into her view....Im pretty certain that was not in the film. i loved that shot.

I was bummed about not seeing the Tie Fighter rise when she was on that platform. I really want to know what that was about and how that played out originally. Hopefully we get that on a commentary track or some such.

i loved that shot in the second trailer (maybe my favorite moment) but i assume it was removed for the confrontation with Krennic. if she just survibed a tie fighter bearing down on her a bureaucrat with a pistol will be less intense.

Man, the shots of the orbit battle outside the shield where the planet is spanning the background down below, just great work on all of those scenes. They were beautiful.

It was wonderful seeing it again, joey. Just super. Last night I saw it with my friend and his two kids. His 7 year old, who is a big SW fan, sat beside me. I've never seen a kid so into a movie.
When they were running to try to get on the ship while Jeddah was blowing up, he was jumping up and down in his seat yelling "go! go!" and the last Vader scene, he grabbed my arm. I looked over at him and his jaw was on the ground. It was a fun thing to see him enjoy everything so much.

That's so fucking awesome. Sounds like this kid and I had almost exactly the same viewing experience.

We took a few of my oldest's friends to see it for her birthday Friday night. One of her friends bailed, so I got the twin brother of her best friend to go with us. He sat to my right. I had as much fun sitting next to him as I did watching the movie. And he watches Rebels, too, so seeing Chopper and the Ghost was as exciting to him as it was me. When something bad would happen, he'd shake his head "no" and during good stuff, he was fist pumping. He was almost out of his seat during the Vader scene. It was awesome and I'm very glad he got to go with us.

Are any of the new movies going to be about something other than the Death Star?

R1 was fun and all, but come on.

This is probably not as good a movie as Force Awakens, but I had way more fun. The directorial style was so perfectly suited to the Star Wars grand scope. It was like discovering the enormity of that universe all over again. Even appearances of rebel heroes from both eras of Lucas's work were nice, because this movie's grit and consequence lended gravitas to their stories. I liked that the movie didn't pretend that its cardboard characters were bigger than they were (Force Awakens), and didn't over-syrup it if someone passed. Another big plus: minimal Force/lightsaber/Skywalkers.

The bad:
- the music sucked. "Trying hard to pretend" swells just sucked the heart out of key scenes, where a forlorn Force theme would have killed. Someone should put the old music to this.

- the uncanny valley. At moments Tarkin worked, but it really was Polar Express meets GTA5 most of the time. Voice acting was stellar, but it was written like he'd had a personality swap anyway.

- all of Darth Vader's dialog. Even without the truly stupid joke (Jesus...), he was way too caught up in the pettiest of expositional gossiping.

- a few of the callbacks. Mostly the thugs on the sand planet. I actually wasn't bothered by most of the rest.

- Forrest W is sci fi garbage. I think he's a good actor, but in sci fi movies he seems to go everywhere and nowhere all at once. He's like a sound machine set to television static and cranked up to full.

- obvious story problems.

I did read that, yes. Super interesting. It was kind of a bummer that they speculate that

That actually made a ton of sense and I think they're probably right.

The rest of it is a great breakdown and I think they're pretty on point with their speculation. And IF they are right, I think the decisions made in the reshoots were the right decisions. I'm not sure the movie being pitched in that first trailer (again, assuming these guys are totally right) might have been a less interesting story. Though, maybe it would have been less convoluted, which others may have responded well to. I didn't find R1 to be too convoluted and I liked the sort of circular motion of the film.

It's been confirmed by multiple sources that worked on the film it really was just the ending was reshot.
