I've read some ideas as to why Kylo hit his chest prior to the fight with Rey. I always thought that was so random of him to do.

do you guys buy into any of these?

These what? I just saw it as he was hitting himself for the adrenalin boost the pain would give him.

I totally expected Han to die. There wasn't much suspense - even the going back and forth, it was fairly easy to guess.

I knew it was coming too, but when that lightsaber lit up, I audibly gasped.

I wish that I had that same reaction, but the scene didn't work for me because the death was "too clean." Had Kylo toyed with him, tortured him a bit, sliced an arm off or two, and then finished him off...now that would have caused the shock and awe I was looking for.

Except Kylo didn't want to kill him, and felt horrible about it afterwards. The emotional impact of the exchange comes from the fact that none of it needed to happen, as Ren is trapped in a story he doesn't really believe in

Stip, I never reached that conclusion with Kylo not wanting to kill Han, even after a few views. My interpretation is that he wanted to kill Han to take his sith lord stuff to the next level. My interpretation might be clouded because JJ presented the classic kill scene in that you knew someone was falling down from that height and the most likely scenario was Han.

I don't have a problem believing Kylo Ren was conflicted about killing Han, but what is stip's evidence for him regretting it afterward?

I'd have to watch the movie again (which is on my to do list the next two weeks), but it's subtle stuff like the expression on his face, and how conflicted he is about Rey's relationship with Han, and his desire to mentor her (and in the process be a better mentor than Han was to him). He was clearly expecting to find some kind of peace after killing Han, and finds himself just as conflicted as ever.

It's says a lot about the kind of person you are that you thought that.

Maybe. But I was talking to Stips point about Rey and Kylo.
I don't think he was playing again at all. He probably fantasised about killing him (I've been waiting for this day for a long time) but he's definitely conflicted about it in the moments before he does it.

I have a theory.
It isn't that R2 wakes up cos rey is back on the base.

It's cos the falcon is.
Luke lut one part of the map with lor San tekka to give to Rey and the other part in R2. He left the falcon on Jakku for Rey to eventually find it and left something inside it to reboot R2 when he came into proximity and that would enable R2 to provide the rest of the map to Rey/the resistance.

Only briefly the first time. Plus we know he's 'defragging' indexing a download from some archive. Falcon is his wake up signal. And it might take a while for him to boot up for it.

Guys, as much as I love this movie, R2 wakes up when he wakes up because the script needed him to. That's it. It's clunky and hokey but here we are. I'm okay with it. Ditto Starkiller Base. Neither one is ideal but they are the devices we got. And if those are the worst things in the movie...
