I suppose I just choose to view it as, this is a band that's meant a lot to me in my life, and they're having a moment in culture now that sheds some light on what they've contributed to the world. Sure, I think it is tasteless to leave out Dave and Jack, but it's still a pretty uncomplicated, knee-jerk "hey, this is cool"-type reaction from me. I don't really understand having a strong cynical reaction to this -- artists far more "respectable" than Pearl Jam have turned up for this thing, had a nice time, and quietly resumed whatever they were doing the next day. What's the big deal?

Yep, you articulated how I feel. It's a cool thing. Not the end all be all, not a travesty. Just a cool moment, and a nice stop on a ride that is going to hopefully keep going. Also, a final F-You to all those people that bashed us around 96-05 w/ the "they're still around? why you still listening to them?". Then, they can just continue on.

Another reason the RnRHoF is dumb and bad - I'd wager, twenty or thirty years hence, Smashing Pumpkins will be seen as being way more interesting and noteworthy than Pearl Jam (if that's not already the case).

Then maybe the criteria for inclusion should be 55 instead of 25 years after an artist's first album. But then we're all going to have egg on our face thirty years later still when that band Stip likes with the album "Laid" is what all the trendies are latching onto.

I'm already gaming out their setlist.
