It's been wonderful witnessing everyone's slow, begrudging acceptance of how dumb this movie is

It isn't that R2 wakes up cos rey is back on the base.

It's cos the falcon is.
Luke lut one part of the map with lor San tekka to give to Rey and the other part in R2. He left the falcon on Jakku for Rey to eventually find it and left something inside it to reboot R2 when he came into proximity and that would enable R2 to provide the rest of the map to Rey/the resistance.

Or something

Yeah, but what a year.

I was listening to a podcast today and they were arguing about BvS being a movie from "last year" but then someone said no, that was March.

there's so many wonderful subtle moments in service of the character. That early shot of Rey drinking from her canteen, with only a trickle of water coming out, and her banging on the bottle with the pan out to the cavernous entry to the star destroyer and the sound echoing through the wreckage. You learn so much about where she comes from in that one shot

also, other than the opening fight in a new hope, the attack on Jakku was probably the first time in star wars where the storm troopers seemed intimidating (obviously R1 does a great job with this).

Ren's introduction is also great, the way he moves like a hunting cat, and the moment when he freezes the blaster.

Daisy Ridley brings such a wonderful mix of innocence and world weariness to her performance. She is so good in this.

random thought--if the first order was trying to capture the map to skywalker why burn the village before you have it?

Also, the opening crawl reminds me how convoluted the resistance/republic/first order stuff is.

the sound editing in this movie is really really good, especially with force powers and lightsabers. The first time Ren uses his mind powers on Poe and it feels like the room is about to fracture under pressure.

Why was Hux so young? Probably the weakest character in the movie.

I think BB8 just purred when Rey was debating selling him.
