So where the hell was Rey? Did they think they could just put a new chick in as the lead and we wouldn't notice?

Good to see you all enjoyed it. Jyn is no Rey but at least we know she died and isn't related to anyone nor has any babies running around.

The article made a whole lot o sense and justified the 40% figure for reshoots.durdencommatyler wrote:But just look at that article and that has to be untrue. Look at that first trailer and all of the stuff that's cut. And it obviously wasn't cut for time. It's stuff that would not make sense in the film as it stands. I just don't buy that it was only the ending. I think other things had to change perhaps BECAUSE the ending was changed. But it's clearly more than that.dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:I did read that, yes. Super interesting. http://theplaylist.net/all-the-deleted- ... cb-contentThat actually made a ton of sense and I think they're probably right.
- Spoiler: show
The rest of it is a great breakdown and I think they're pretty on point with their speculation. And IF they are right, I think the decisions made in the reshoots were the right decisions. I'm not sure the movie being pitched in that first trailer (again, assuming these guys are totally right) might have been a less interesting story. Though, maybe it would have been less convoluted, which others may have responded well to. I didn't find R1 to be too convoluted and I liked the sort of circular motion of the film.
It's been confirmed by multiple sources that worked on the film it really was just the ending was reshot.
I'm also glad LV loved it. It was quite the film.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Yknow one thing I was really worried about and rogue one pulled off in spades?
The space battle scenes.
The x wings move like and are shot exactly like those in a new hope. But yet still manages to be modern and fast paced. The other ships in the fleet could be exactly from Jedi and they are shot the same but in new ways too that fit perfectly.
They did a great job with that.
Big question though. If you were going to show a film to someone who's never seen Star Wars. Would you start with rogue one of a new hope?

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Probably the most tense moment in the movie was when the rebels were trying to get the plans away from Vader. Even knowing full well that they succeed I was really worried they wouldn't.

Dime, I think I'd tell a first timer to start work R1. It's the prologue to the epic novel. Though, it does render the opening crawl redundant and silly if you watch back to back.

Cool connective tissue. Kylo says they got the map to Luke from the remains of the empires archive.
We see the archive get blowed up in R1. That's cool.

It's a thinker isn't it?
In the same way there's no way anyone will fall in love with Star Wars by watching the prequels I'd always show a new hope first I think. It's far too mic of a lurch in tone to go R1 first. And none of them have that magic a new hope does. Except maybe force awakens but yanno.
