I saw this today. I stayed spoiler free going in.

I thought there was a bit too much planet jumping early on. Jyn didn't need to start the movie captive - that seemed unnecessary and stupid. I did love the bits of Star Wars stuff (helmets, aliens, bit characters) throughout. I loved the physical chess set very much. Did Tarkin attack the surface of Scarif just to kill Director Krennic? I thought Biggs and Wedge would have made an (CGI) appearance. I thought R2-D2 would have done the interfacing with and stealing of "Stardust" materials. All these years I assumed he held the schematics all along and all Leia did was record the message before he escaped to Tatooine. Now we know she recorded the message and stored the schematics all while the Tantive 4 was being boarded. They did say "Force" many more times than I would of guessed. I was kinda hoping for an F-word less SW, maybe that'll be Han. I expected all of the group to die, so no shocker there. Including Bail Organa from the prequels is OK, but showing Mustafar's name on screen is a no-no? Gimme a break. Seeing digital Carrie Fisher almost brought a tear to my eye.

I liked it. If all the spin-off's were this good, I'd be pleased. However, I would rank it 7 out of 8 SW movies.

Unless I blinked and missed it, I didn't see a title card for Mustafar either. That bothered me about the planet hopping because they were telling us "we're going here, we're going there" and then we're...where?

The title cards are another thing I could have done without in this film. Just cut 'em. But yeah if you're gonna have them be consistent.

The scene that's bothering me now is using the weapon on Scarif with Leia in orbit. It really, really cheapens the destruction of Alderon scene in ANH.

You think? That's interesting. To me it enhances that scene. And it helps justify why she's willing to sacrifice another planet in Alderon's place. She knows what that thing can do. And she knows her father and the people she cares most about are on Alderon.

I always viewed Leia as not quite knowing the power of the DS while in orbit over Alderon. If she knew, she would have never risked lying.

If she knew it could destroy the planet, I don't think she would have lied. She would have told Tarkin where the Rebellion actually was located.

I also think it's really weird that Vader lives in a castle. And I'm not sure why. It is cool that they finally got that bit of McQuarrie's concept/design into a Star Wars film. I do love that. And I love the idea of Vader staying on that planet. But... the giant tower didn't ultimately work for me. I mean, I'm fine with it. It didn't ruin anything. But it was jarring for me.

I understand your sentence. Just not the logic. Why do you think she would have told the truth? After all of that. Knowing it's full power, you think she would have caved and turned traitor? Just doesn't seem right to me.

Also, she doesn't know it's full power. She saw a test and from afar. Maybe she didn't believe it was fully functioning and/or that it would literally be able to destroy a whole planet.

Yeah, probably. I just know they'd been trying to get it into one of the films since Empire. And they finally did. Which is super cool.

She was the second most powerful leader on Alderon. She wouldn't betray her people on Alderon either. She was "traitor" either way.
