I feel as though my recent posts in this thread have been similarly lost in translation as the Steve Jones "things that are not rock n' roll" list I posted.

Can you go on record and confirm you still think Dave A should be inducted but you don't think Bruce Springsteen should be in there?

I really don't think he's suggesting anything of the sort in regards to your personal preferences so much as he is suggesting that personal taste does not dictate categorization in some (many) cases. I don't care what anyone's "taste" says -- Bruce Springsteen is a rock musician. His music may have other flavors, and he has dabbled in full in some other genres (mainly folk), but still -- rock musician. I'm not sure history is written exactly as Tuolumne says but his underlying point is sound.
I would agree that pop music (rock, rap, country, even Ariana Grande) shares a common ancestor in American Blues music, pioneered by black musicians last century like T said. But I bet an argument could be made that the divergence is so great that the old meaning of 'rock and roll' is no longer valid today in any sense other than for semantic exercises and historical deconstructions. Similar to how English is a Germanic language, but is not directly interchangeable with what modern Germans speak, modern Hip-Hop and Rock are quite different. Whether the differences amount to inclusion or exclusion from the RnRHoF I don't know or care, but I do understand how someone could see it either way.

i propose a Dave A tribute concert / rally outside of the Barclays Center; in solidarity with Dave A

there we can:

- play concert videos of Dave A
- talk about Dave A
- play covers of Dave A's music
- hold a raffle for a China Crash symbol, signed in a way that we think Dave A might like
- re-enact a scene from the breakfast where Stone tells Dave A he is fired
- wear Dave A-style wigs and soul-patches
- burn an effigy of the Hall of Fame voting committee, in a chaotic middle-eastern riot style

who's in?

i'm lazy and don't want to read back, but what are we thinking (or hoping) the 4 song set will be?

the safe, predictable, lame, and probably likely set:
even flow, daughter, betterman, alive

something less mainstream, but kinda mainstream while being more interesting:
go, corduroy, do the evolution, alive

one unrealistic hope:
save you, red mosquito, immortality, rearviewmirror

I realize that the criteria for inclusion in this event is 'Fame', but if they play either Jeremy or Daughter without Dave A it is going to make me paralyzed with rage, and island rhythms

if they still had any balls, and a bit of decency when it comes to recognizing the importance of the contributions of past members, they'd bring all the drummers back, and do something like

even flow (with kruzen)
go (with dave a)
hail hail (with jack)
matt-era closing song (with matt) [life wasted? mym?]

I drafted the following songs during that decade music tournament we did a year or so back. Would these songs be eligible for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame?
