He's not attached at all to Indiana Jones. Those jabronies were joking around.

And you know he didn't write Rogue One, right? That was somebody else's script.

But putting in things like the Ghost that ties it to the other parts of the universe in a non obtrusive way that makes sense I think is different than fan service. And Leia just firms up the time line virtually to the minute.
I'm much more or your end of the spectrum here.

Me too. Except on R2 & 3PO. Wish they'd gone the chopper route and just had them whizzing past bickering in the final shot when Antilles turns from the corridor into the cockpit on the tantive iv. Would have helped tie it up even further.

Somebody on one of the podcasts who's seen R1 loads made a great point about people/superfans not buying Tarkin and having problems with the mouth. The problem isn't the movement of the mouth the problem is the voice, while sounding 200% like him, is too robust and forceful so that it doesn't match the movement of the mouth as well as it could.

I'm on board with that.

People just need to have something to complain about. That way, they can't say how fucking great a movie is in front of their uber nerd friends who liked it just as much as they did but want to sound cool by finding flaws with it.

Ain't that the truth. I'm ok with not loving it. No point at all banging on about why. There's far more really really cool stuff in this than there is flaws.

The R2/3PO cameo is the second worst one in the movie.

:hooray:

Did she have any feelings about the originality (or lack thereof) of the film? Did he seem "like all the other Star Wars movies" to her? Whether that be in a good way or a bad way?

They have to be in there somewhere. We all know they're in every movie.

Who was the first worst cameo??

It actually made some sense they were there at the base, but 3PO's one line of dialogue was terrible. However, their presence there totally negates his conversation with Luke in the original film about not knowing much about the Rebellion. He's right there in the fucking middle of it!

I'm sure he's referring to Dr Evazan and Pando Baba.

I liked it.

Walrus Man and that other guy from the cantina in Mos Eisley. Completely unnecessary. Takes the viewer totally out of the movie and kinda creates more problems/questions than it does offer enthusiasm or humor or whatever. Pure fan service that ads nothing. R2 and 3PO are at least... appropriate. It makes sense that they're there and we might even feel upset if we didn't see them at one point or another. Just wish their cameo had been better.

Yeah, see. It's a fun cameo. But this kind of stuff bugs me especially when it causes unnecessary friction/conflict with the OT. Again, not a deal breaker. But those droids deserved a better cameo.

Oh them yeah.
The podisphere has a lot of discussion about how the hell they get off a planet with a military blockade which is just blown up and to Tatooine in 24 hours.

I chuckled when I saw them. Breezed past me TBH

He doesn't really mean that though or perhaps for once has learned some discretion and to keep his mouth shut. He does say he doesn't know who the princess is. 'A person of some importance I believe/I'm little more than interpreter' Which kinda doesn't make sense given that's Bails main ship and he's a damn interpreter. Presumably she's on it a lot as they would be

That's exactly it. I'm excited to see R1 again so I can focus on what happens right after they appear. I spent too much time thinking about how little sense they made that they were there, how dumb the cameo was in the first place. Then again, when Jedha City gets destroyed, I was pulled out all over again thinking about them. Blech.

One theory I heard was they could be rebel spies And knew to get the hell outta there when they saw the military leave. Bars and cantinas are the go to places for info in all Star Wars. Over and over. Nobody wants their comic / standalone though do they?
